Streaming Data Analytics Has New Method Planned by NJIT, USC, Harvard
E-commerce sites, military planners and streaming media providers all want to analyze multiple sources of live data as quickly as possible, a holy grail of data science which is about to become possible through new software called StreamWare, from researchers at Harvard University, New Jersey Institute of Technology and the University of Southern California. "What we're trying to do is reimagine data science," said David Bader, distinguished professor and director of NJIT's Institute for Data Science.

NJIT Awarded NSF Grant to Open Undergrad Space Weather Research Program
With a new grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF), NJIT’s internationally-recognized Institute for Space Weather Sciences (ISWS) will now host a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program site — offering unique summer research opportunities for students in the dynamic field of space weather science. The new 10-week space weather research program is expected to enroll eight undergraduates annually throughout the summers of 2022-2024.

Student Wins Scholarship for Helping Reduce Electron Leakage in Blue LEDs
Andressa Marangon, a senior electrical and computer engineering major at New Jersey Institute of Technology, won a $1,000 scholarship from the IEEE Electron Devices Society for her role in improving the brightness and power consumption of blue LEDs that technologically lag behind their red and green cousins. That might not affect your iPhone or TV anytime soon, she said, but it's important for applications such as healthcare products and industrial machinery.

Women's Soccer Shuts Out UAlbany In Senior Day Overtime Battle
The Highlanders are still alive. In a Senior Day home finale with major America East tournament implications, the NJIT women's soccer team earned a hard fought 1-0 overtime victory over the UAlbany Great Danes Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.

Regsan Watkins Scores Game-Winner in OT, NJIT Picks Up 3-2 Win at Binghamton
NJIT fifth-year Regsan Watkins scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute of overtime as the Highlanders picked up its first road win of the season with a 3-2 victory at Binghamton Saturday afternoon in America East Conference men's soccer action at Bearcats Sports Complex. A minute thirty into the first overtime, Watkins put away the game-winner to give the Highlanders a 3-2 comeback win, keeping postseason hopes alive for NJIT.

Turbocharging the Internet Fulfillment Revolution
Sanchoy Das recalls his first jaw-dropping view of an Amazon fulfillment warehouse in 2013. The word “explosive” came to mind. Gone were the single-product sections where boxes of diapers and paper towels were stacked next to each other in neat rows. Instead, these products were dispersed throughout the building in hundreds of different locations, tucked into bins with unrelated items such as ketchup and motor oil.

How the Largest African American Architecture Firm Walks the Talk
Brian Tibbs ‘91 was recently named the managing partner at Moody Nolan, the largest African-American-owned architecture firm in the United States and recognized by AIA as the 2021 Firm of the Year, its highest honor for an architecture office. Moody Nolan was founded in 1984 by Curtis Moody, FAIA, and the late engineer Howard E. Nolan.

You can’t see it happening. But what goes on below ground in a forest is very important in determining its fate. In a new study, scientists conclude that the sideways flow of water through soil can have an important impact on how riparian forests respond to climate change. Models used to predict the future plight of forests typically don’t account for this factor — but they should, researchers say.

Ludvik Alkhoury - ECE PhD Student of the Month - October 2021
Ludvik Alkhoury is a Ph.D. candidate in the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Alkhoury works under the advisement of Professor Moshe Kam, Dean of Newark College of Engineering, in signal and image processing, detection and estimation, physiological signals and signs, and wearable sensors and devices. Alkhoury served as the president of the NJIT’s Graduate Student Association (GSA) for the academic year 2019-2020. He shares his experience.

Women's Soccer Blanks New Hampshire For First-Ever America East Road Win
It was not pretty, but like seeing the beauty in the struggle, something great came from the grind. The NJIT women's soccer team battled its way to the program's first-ever America East road victory Sunday afternoon, holding off the New Hampshire Wildcats, 1-0, at Wildcat Stadium. The victory moved NJIT to 5-10-1 (3-3-1 AE) on the year and snapped New Hampshire's (5-7-2, 3-3-1 AE) three-game winning streak.
