NJIT and The New York Red Bulls team up for Goals for Attendance Program in Newark Public Schools
New Jersey Institute of Technology and the New York Red Bulls held the first of a series of events in the Goal for Perfect Attendance Program. The incentive-based program is a collaborative effort between the Red Bulls, Newark Public Schools and NJIT that strives to improve student attendance across all district high schools in Newark. For each event, four students from each of Newark's 17 public high schools are invited to participate.

NJIT Partners with ENGIE North America to Source Electricity from Renewable Sources
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and a subsidiary of ENGIE North America, announced today that the university will purchase renewable energy from a portfolio of hydropower facilities equal to nearly 100% of its forecasted electricity consumption. This agreement achieves one of the strongest commitments for renewable power procurement in a retail energy purchase.

Lenny Kaplan Named To USILA Board of Directors
Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan was recently added to the Board of Directors of the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). Kaplan was appointed to the Board alongside Washington and Lee Director of Athletic Communication Brian Laubscher.

Coleman's Double-Double Leads NJIT Men's Basketball Past FDU at the WEC
Miles Coleman scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds for his first double-double as a Highlander on Wednesday as the NJIT men's basketball team held off visiting Fairleigh Dickinson 62-54 in a mid-week matinee at the Wellness and Events Center. NJIT (2-2) is now 7-0 all-time against FDU (0-4), including 6-0 as a Division I program.

Back Into the Win Column, Women's Basketball Holds On for 67-61 Win Over Saint Peter's
The NJIT women's basketball team moved back into the win column led by sophomore guard Lyzi Litwinko's career-high 16 points as the Highlanders held on for a 67-61 victory over visiting Saint Peter's Saturday afternoon in non-conference action inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. NJIT, winners of the last four-out-of-five games, moves above .500 with a 4-3 record while Saint Peter's drops to 1-4 on the young season.

NJIT Holds On For A 67-63 Win At CCSU, Picks Up Third Straight Win
The NJIT women's basketball team picked up its third straight win of the season, holding on for a 67-63 win at Central Connecticut State Sunday afternoon in women's basketball non-conference action at Detrick Gymnasium. NJIT, winners of three in a row, began its win streak with an upset win at Big Ten opponent Wisconsin (61-49) on Nov. 14, followed up with an home overtime victory against LIU (59-53) on Nov. 18 and held on for a 67-63 win against the Blue Devils.

Cultivating Biodiversity at the Albert Dorman Honors College
For the fourth year in a row, a fresh crop of scholars at the Albert Dorman Honors College are nudging the campus towards a more biodiverse environment. Dozens of first-year scholars, armed with shovels, hoes, and mulch, uprooted a swath of landscaped invasive plant species on the sloped lawn outside Eberhardt Hall and replaced them with a diverse array of native plants.

Outside of Class, Cybersecurity Students Learn to Think Like the Enemy
A group of NJIT students studying cybersecurity outside the classroom learned that it's educational to pretend to be the bad guys, in order to design stronger defenses against them. SIGMAL — Special Interest Group for Malware — is a section born last year within NJIT's chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery, and their careful observations into the dark side of computer hacking are validated by experts around campus, from their faculty advisor to the university's own network security analyst.

For 3rd Straight Year, NJIT Professor Makes Global List of Highly Cited Researchers
A research paper on metal carbides and nitrides is paying dividends for NJIT’s Meng-Qiang Zhao — seven years after it was published. For the third straight year, Zhao, an assistant professor of chemical and materials engineering at NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering, has made Clarivate’s list of Highly Cited Researchers. Why? Chiefly because peers continue to cite the paper, which introduced a faster and safer way to synthesize MXenes, a family of novel 2D transition metal carbides and nitrides, according to Zhao.

NJIT Tops NJBIZ Reader Ranking for Fourth Consecutive Year
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has been named a top company in NJBIZ Magazine’s annual reader ranking surveys in both the Life Sciences and Business Incubator categories. The annual ranking by the business journal surveys its readership to nominate and vote for companies in over 50 different categories that include banking and finance, health care and pharmaceuticals, and corporate philanthropy.
