Senior Success: Sreya Sanyal Is Off to Become an NIH Researcher
Sreya Sanyal ’22 is right where she wants to be in the fight against cancer — at the cutting-edge of medical research. She’ll soon be using the breakthrough gene-editing technology CRISPR-Cas9, often described as “genetic scissors”, to study human disease as a post baccalaureate researcher with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) after graduation. For Sanyal, whose parents met and graduated from medical school in India, her journey toward a career as a physician-scientist specializing in cancer biology has deep roots, beginning at the age of 10.

New Jersey Innovation Institute Announces Sale of its Subsidiary, BioCentriq, for $73 Million
The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) announced on May 16, 2022, the sale of its subsidiary, BioCentriq Inc., to GC corp. for $73 million. BioCentriq manufactures autologous and allogeneic cell therapies and gene therapies and specializes in viral vector production, cell and viral banking, and upstream and downstream processing.

David Marcano Named to COSIDA Academic All-District Team
David Marcano, a graduate student on the NJIT baseball team was named COSIDA Academic All-District II, it was announced on Thursday. Marcano, the team's shortstop who has played in and started 41 of 42 games this season, leads the Highlanders (21-21) in batting average (.333), while ranking second in home runs (seven) and RBIs (29). Earlier this season Marcano hit in 20-straight games, the longest hitting streak by a Highlander since 2007.

New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is ranked No. 14 overall in the United States by Money in its list of Best Colleges for 2022. Money evaluated more than 600 institutions focusing on 24 factors in three main categories that surveys have shown are the most important to students: quality of education, affordability and alumni outcomes.

Strapped into an exoskeleton, Damyane Evely strode heavily back and forth across a 15-foot platform, taking an occasional peek at a monitor on the wall to survey his progress — and to silently marvel. It had been more than 15 years since his spinal cord was compressed in a motorcycle accident, landing him in a wheelchair. He was relishing his verticality.

Senior Success: Badeti, Student Senate Prez, Working at Bloomberg
Anuja Badeti started interning at Bloomberg in high school, kept working there during summer breaks from college and will accept a full-time role upon her graduation from the joint B.S./M.S. program in computer science this spring. It's a strikingly logical career path, considering her childhood dream of being a farmer — "I really liked the idea of being able to grow food and eat it," she said — and then her move into campus politics, where she served as president of the NJIT Student Senate after not being involved until her junior year.

Sara Obead - ECE PhD Student of the Month - May 2022
Sarah Obead is a soon-to-be-hooded Ph.D. from the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Ms. Obead worked under the advisement of Professor Joerg Kliewer and has successfully defended her dissertation on April 27, 2022. She also completed her M.Sc. in Telecommunications from NJIT in 2016.

Highlanders Win 6-3 on Sunday to Take Pivotal Series From Binghamton
The NJIT baseball team got a first inning home run from Julio Marcano on Sunday and never looked back en route to a 6-3 victory over host Binghamton in America East Conference action. The victory clinched the series for the Highlanders as the teams split the first two games and, more importantly, gives NJIT a one-game lead over Binghamton for the second bye in the upcoming America East Playoffs with six regular season games remaining.

Track and Field Adds Three More Medals To Close Out America East Outdoors
The NJIT track and field teams finished their second America East Outdoor Championships meet on Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Vermont. Both teams improved their scoring from their 2021 debut, with the men's team totaling 39 points (8th place; 31 in 2021) and the women's team tallying 23 points (9th place; 10.5 in 2021). NJIT Achieves Record Number of Students Earning Global Scholarships and Fellowships
At New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), students always have had the option to apply for prestigious fellowships and awards, but the university has taken things to a new level over the last two years with 23 recipients of Fulbright, Goldwater, NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, Boren, Gilman, and other nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships. This year alone, 15 NJIT students have received these awards, putting NJIT on par with some of the most prestigious universities in the nation.
