The newly renovated Weston Alumni Lecture Hall, located on the ground floor of the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, is officially open. The lecture hall, formerly the Weston Lecture Hall, is named for the school’s alumni, whose donations helped fund the renovations.

An Engineer and an Architectural Historian Win the 2021 Excellence in Research Awards
Nirwan Ansari, an electrical and computer engineer who is a pioneer in the field of communications networks, and Gabrielle Esperdy, an architectural historian and trailblazer in the digital humanities, are the winners of the Board of Overseers Excellence in Research award for 2021. Atam Dhawan, senior vice provost for research, called the two awardees “exceptionally consequential researchers.”

Digital Archive of Newark Architecture Goes AR
There is nothing outwardly special about the old brick building on State Street and Broadway. To the layperson, it’s just another pile of bricks near a highway entrance. Through a phone app and a camera lens, the NJIT Littman Architecture Library’s Digital Archive of Newark Architecture (DANA) will soon be able to show, in augmented reality, that the building was State Street School, Newark’s longest-running public school and home to the city’s first Black principal.

Ying Wu College of Computing Achieves Record Incoming Class and Enrollment for Fall 2021
Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) is proud to welcome a record-breaking number of new students at all levels of undergraduate, graduate and doctoral study for the fall 2021 semester. With 1,150 new students, YWCC achieved an 11% increase in its total enrollment, weighing in at 3,479 students - representing 31% of the total NJIT student body.

NJIT Board of Trustees Honors Baseball and Fencing Teams in Historic Season
NJIT President Dr. Joel Bloom and the Board of Trustees recognized two programs Thursday, Sept. 23, inside the Campus Center. NJIT's baseball team had a historic 2021 season, which culminated with an NCAA Tournament berth and a trip to the NCAA Fayetteville Regional, and NJIT's men's and women's fencing teams captured the first NCAA trophy in program history with a fourth-place finish at the 2021 NCAA Fencing Championships.

Bryan C. Lee Jr. '08 Named 2021 Cooper Hewitt Emerging Designer
Bryan Lee ‘08 and his firm Colloqate have been dismantling systemic racism in the broader social arena and in the practice of architecture for some time now. In his keynote lecture during the Hillier College 2020 Design Showcase, Lee describes how, through the process and outcomes of design, designers can get to Design Justice. It is a practice where designers and the community work together to produce spaces that will serve the people who will use it.

NJIT's David Bader Selected to Receive the 2021 IEEE Computer Society Sidney Fernbach Award
The IEEE Computer Society (IEEE CS) has named David Bader as the recipient of the 2021 Sidney Fernbach Award. Bader is a distinguished professor and founder of the Department of Data Science, and inaugural Director of the Institute for Data Science, at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
