Sourav Ganguly - ECE PhD Student of the Month - July 2025
Sourav Ganguly is a first-year Ph.D. student in the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, working in the Learning-Based Decision Making Lab as a research assistant under Dr. Arnob Ghosh. His research interests include machine learning, reinforcement learning, and stochastic control, with a focus on improving safety in autonomous systems operating in uncertain environments while maximizing long-term expected rewards.

Ingeniería inspirada en la naturaleza: el camino de descubrimiento de Danna Valentina
El camino de Danna Valentina Sánchez Hernández para convertirse en investigadora comenzó mucho antes de llegar a NJIT. Al crecer en Colombia, desarrolló una fascinación temprana por la ciencia al asistir a conferencias médicas junto a sus padres —ambos médicos— y al aprender sobre ensayos clínicos e investigación biológica. Sin embargo, su pasión por la ingeniería biomédica no se consolidó hasta que se inscribió en cursos de doble matrícula en la Universidad CES.

New Jersey Institute of Technology has accepted an invitation from the Big South Conference and will join the NCAA Division I league as an associate member in the sports of men's and women's tennis, effective for the 2025-26 academic year.

Three Highlanders were recognized for their entrepreneurial achievements and significant contributions to New Jersey’s economy at the 12th annual New Jersey Immigrant Entrepreneur Awards. Among the distinguished honorees were alumnus and trustee Dhiraj Shah '99, Foundation Board of Directors member Arthur Kapoor and Professor Suresh Kumar.

13 Highlanders Named 2024-25 America East Presidential Scholar-Athletes
The America East Conference has announced that 13 student-athletes from NJIT have been named 2024-25 America East Presidential Scholar-Athletes for their outstanding academic achievements throughout their entire career, the league office announced Wednesday. In addition to registering a 3.75 GPA for their college career, honored student-athletes must have received their undergraduate degree in the academic year they are honored and have attended their institution for a minimum of two years.

From Sketch to Splash: NJIT and Newark Collaborate on Student-Built Pool Cabanas
The Hillier College of Architecture and Design, through a public-private partnership formed between NJIT, the city of Newark and the logistics real estate company Prologis, gave second-year architecture students the opportunity to complete a studio design-build of custom cabanas for Newark’s public pools. “Looking back on it, it was one of the best experiences ever,” said architecture student Gracie Bush. “Nothing beats hands-on experience in any field, and this was just like a crash course, and how you take an idea from nothing to something and how people interact with it.”

Danna Valentina Sanchez Hernandez’s path to becoming a researcher began long before she arrived at NJIT. Growing up in Colombia, she developed an early fascination with science by attending medical conferences alongside her parents — both physicians — and learning about clinical trials and biological research. But her passion for biomedical engineering didn’t crystallize until she enrolled in dual-enrollment courses at Universidad CES.

NJIT Athletics Posts 33rd Consecutive Semester with Term GPA Above 3.0
NJIT Athletics posted its 33rd consecutive semester with a 3.0 GPA or higher, boasting a 3.446 department-wide GPA. All 19 of NJIT's programs earned a 3.0 or higher GPA this past spring with 66 individual student-athletes recording perfect 4.0 GPAs, 221 earning Dean's List honors, and 273 with a 3.0 term GPA or higher. Women's tennis had the highest spring term GPA at 3.742 and men's volleyball posted the highest men's GPA at 3.535. Eight teams earned a 3.5 GPA or higher this spring.
