New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), a subsidiary of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean J. Paranicas as chair of NJII’s Board of Directors.

Ph.D. candidates Nhi N Nguyen, Mahmoud Nazzal and Khiem Ton recently presented two papers at the 31st ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (CCS 2024) that could aid future breakthroughs in improving the trustworthiness of Large Language Models (LLMs) when generating code. The research has the potential to be a game changer in the use of generative AI for many sectors of industry and academia, especially software development.

NJIT biologist Eric Fortune and a team of scientists called “Limelight Rainforest” have won the five-year XPRIZE Rainforest Competition, securing half of the competition's $10 million prize purse. 

The human body can heal itself, but only up to a point. If an injury removes 20% or more of a muscle — as can happen in car accidents, certain surgeries or explosions in combat zones — natural processes can’t, on their own, replace it. Instead, the wound seals up, covered by scar tissue.   “The body sees this extensive loss of tissue as an insurmountable void,” says Jonathan Grasman, an assistant professor of biomedical engineering. 

Sam Deemer was named the America East Swimmer of the Week, while Borys Endle earned the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Both earned their first career AE weekly awards.

For the sixth straight year, New Jersey Institute of Technology undergraduate program for entrepreneurship ranks top 50 nationally, according to The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine.

Angel Cazares, an S-STEM scholar and president of the Hispanic and Latin Association of Computing College Students (HACCS) at NJIT, has been awarded the distinguished 2024 eBay HSI Battle of the Brains Scholarship. This recognition celebrates Cazares' academic dedication and leadership in technology and innovation, marking a significant milestone in his journey and reinforcing NJIT’s growing reputation for developing young leaders and problem-solvers.

 Kennedy Westbrook was named to the America East All-Rookie Team, the conference announced on Friday. This marks the fourth consecutive season that NJIT had an All-Rookie Team selection.   Westbrook earned America East Rookie of the Week honors on September 23 after recording the first three points of her collegiate career, including one goal and one assist against Bryant on September 22.  

An NJIT computational research team made impressive strides at the Princeton FlyWire Codex Data Challenge. Teams were tasked to solve a highly complex problem: analyzing the intricate network of neurons in the brain of a Drosophila melanogaster — commonly known as the fruit fly. Teams had to treat this neural network as a massive, interconnected graph and work to determine the best possible ordering of neurons. The goal was to maximize the efficiency of the brain's neural pathways, creating an optimal flow of information within this tiny but surprisingly complex system.
