NJIT Joins the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities
New Jersey Institute of Technology has joined the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities as its 22nd member. With a total enrollment of more than 13,000, NJIT increased its Hispanic student population from 20% to 25% in fall 2022 and earned HSI designation from the U.S. Department of Education earlier this year. The Alliance, which represents universities that are both Hispanic-serving and the highest rated in research, aims to increase opportunities for people who historically have been underserved by higher education.

A research team from New Jersey Institute of Technology is uncovering mysteries surrounding fluids in nanoporous materials, and has been recently awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to support this research.

No. 67 NJIT Men's Tennis Remains Unbeaten at Home with Win Over Lehigh
The NJIT men's tennis team returned home to the Naimoli Family Tennis Center on Saturday following five-straight road matches and defeated visiting Lehigh 7-0 to remain unbeaten through eight home matches this season. The Highlanders, who are currently ranked #67 in the ITA computer rankings, improved their overall record to 13-3, while the Mountain Hawks fell to 6-7.

Ladehoff's Early Offense Pushes NJIT Past Fairfield in Series Rubber Match
The NJIT baseball team jumped out in front early and held off host Fairfield late, winning 8-5 in non-conference action on Sunday at the Alumni Baseball Diamond. Sunday's victory gave the Highlanders the series win as the team's split a doubleheader on Friday as they got two games in early ahead of Saturday's inclement weather.

Leaders of NJIT's New Jersey Innovation Institute Make Health Care Power Lists
Leaders of the New Jersey Innovation Institute, the corporation of New Jersey Institute of Technology that turns innovative research and ideas into businesses, are featured in NJBIZ’s 2024 health care power lists. NJII Board of Directors member Debbie Hart made the top 10 list and NJII President Michael Johnson is in the top 50. Hart is president and CEO of BioNJ and board chair of the N.J. Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology.

BIOSTEC 2024 Brings YWCC to Rome
Jim Geller, professor in the Department of Data Science, and Fadi Deek, former NJIT provost and distinguished professor in the Department of Informatics, attended the BIOSTEC 2024 conference in Rome during February to present papers on behalf of their co-authors, which included additional faculty and Ph.D. candidates from the Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) on subjects related to machine learning and ethical AI.

NICC Climbs Higher Across the Competition
The NJIT Information and Cybersecurity Club (NICC), the budding student run organization with a mission to give students real-time, practical experience in information security and cybersecurity, has been rising in the ranks of CTF competitions across the nation and abroad. The club recently placed third out of 12 northeast regional teams in the NCAE Cyber Games, held March 8 by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C).

Chief Engineer of Port Authority NY/NJ Rizwan Baig Visits NJIT
Rizwan Baig, chief engineer of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, visited NJIT to give a presentation on building the 21st-century transportation system. His talk, covering the architectural, design, construction and asset management aspects of the agency, highlighted the agency’s plan to revitalize infrastructure that is essential to economic growth and vitality.

Two NJIT Research Groups Awarded as Part of $1.2M EPA P3 Program
Two NJIT projects have been awarded as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) People, Prosperity, and the Planet (P3) Program. The $1.2 million program funded 16 different student-based projects throughout the country to research and develop innovative solutions that address environmental and public health challenges. The NJIT projects will tackle water quality and the detection of “forever chemicals” in the air.

NJIT's Undergrad Forensics Program Awarded National Accreditation, a First in NJ
NJIT’s undergraduate forensic science program has been awarded full accreditation from the Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC) of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences — a distinction held by less than 35 undergraduate forensics programs nationwide. FEPAC is regarded as the main accrediting body for college-level forensic science education in the U.S., recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Bullpen and Late Offensive Effort Lead the Highlanders Past Binghamton
The NJIT baseball team battled back from three different deficits on Sunday before ultimately defeating host Binghamton 8-5 in America East Conference action at the Bearcats Baseball Complex. The Highlanders, who were already defeated by Binghamton in the first two games of this weekend's three-game series, went behind, 2-0, 4-2, and 5-4, before scoring three runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth to avoid the sweep in both team's first conference series of the season.

Robert Cohen, a three-time New Jersey Institute of Technology alumnus and current chair of the university’s Board of Trustees, leads a digital, robotics and enabling technology division at medical technology firm Stryker Corp. that grabbed Apple’s attention this month for its work with the new VisionPro mixed-reality headset.

The New York meetup of the Learning on Graphs Conference (LoG NY), an annual conference that covers research broadly related to machine learning on graphs, was hosted on February 29 and March 2 by the Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) at their NJIT@JerseyCity location, on the premises of the NJIT-BGU Institute of Future Technologies (IFT).

PhD Graduate Jorge Alberto Medina's Passion for Electronics Started in his Native Honduras
Jorge Alberto Medina '23 grew up with electronics. He recalls watching his dad disassemble and rebuild electronic equipment, and leafed through stacks of monthly electronics magazines as his light reading material. The exposure grew into a passion, and Medina set his sights on a journey that ultimately brought him to NJIT.
