NJIT Architecture Alum Bryan Lee Jr. Named 2025-2026 NOMA President
Bryan C. Lee Jr. ’08, an architect, educator and design justice advocate with a master’s in architecture from NJIT’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design, was recently named president of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA). Lee is the founder and director of Colloqate Design, a nonprofit multidisciplinary design practice based in New Orleans. His appointment marks a significant milestone in NOMA's ongoing mission to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the architectural profession.

NJIT Professor and 2 Alumni Rise to Fellows at the American Institute of Architects
The American Institute of Architects is celebrating a New Jersey Institute of Technology professor and two alumni for their professional excellence and societal impact. Professor of Design Georgeen Theodore and alumni Bryan C. Lee Jr. and Michael Hanrahan were elevated to organization’s College of Fellows — a recognition that less than 3% of its members achieve. Just 83 members across the U.S. became fellows this year.

NJIT Biologist Wins NSF CAREER Award to Explore Hidden Hydrological Factor to Forest Resilience
New Jersey Institute of Technology biologist Xiaonan Tai has received a National Science Foundation CAREER Award to investigate how landscape positions determine forest fate during extreme heat and drought — a factor that could help explain why some forests perish while others survive. The CAREER Award, among NSF’s most prestigious honors for junior faculty, includes a grant of $1,162,914 to support Tai’s project, “Unveiling the Role of Hillslope Hydrology in Mediating Ecosystem Response to Drought,” over the next five years.

Two NJIT Faculty Elected as National Academy of Inventors Senior Members
New Jersey Institute of Technology Professors Vivek Kumar and Xuan Liu have been named as Senior Members in the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) 2025 class. They join 162 emerging academic inventors from 64 NAI Member Institutions across the nation recognized for their outstanding contributions to innovation. Kumar, associate professor of biomedical engineering, and Liu, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, are part of the largest class to date, collectively holding over 1,200 U.S. patents.

Robert Cohen, president of Digital, Robotics, and Enabling Technology at Stryker, and a distinguished alumnus of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), has been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Engineering (NAE). This honor, one of the highest professional distinctions in engineering, recognizes Cohen's outstanding contributions to orthopedic surgical procedures and devices, and his leadership in additive manufacturing and biomaterials.

NJIT Baseball Celebrates the Official Naming of the Donnelly Family Locker Room
On Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025 the NJIT Department of Athletics dedicated the Highlander Baseball Locker Room as The Donnelly Family Locker Room. The naming is in recognition of the generosity and support of the Donnelly Family, who established The Donnelly Fund which to date has raised over $250,000 in cash and commitments to the baseball program.

NJIT Expert Wins NSF Career Award to Study Fluid-Solid Interaction
Engineers keep deriving new applications from research into what happens when solid objects interact with fluids such as gasses and liquids — it’s useful knowledge for aerospace, energy and healthcare — but new applications in turn require more research, in an endless cycle that may soon skip a few loops because of an NJIT professor’s improvements to the hottest software in his field.

NJIT Students Can Now Get Professional Headshots via a Self-Serve Kiosk
New Jersey Institute of Technology is introducing a new service for students seeking jobs, internships and cooperative education experiences: a self-serve kiosk that takes professional headshots. The kiosk, known as Popcam, enables students to take multiple images in less than a minute before picking their favorite. Then they can customize the background and get the final image online.

Fifteen Highlanders from New Jersey Institute of Technology are featured in ROI-NJ’s annual lists of the most powerful individuals in New Jersey. Five of the honorees made the publication’s Super 75 list: President Teik C. Lim; Trustee Gary Dahms; Hispanic Latinx Leadership Council member Luis De La Hoz; and two members of the Board of Directors of NJIT’s New Jersey Innovation Institute: Michele Siekerka and Wesley Mathews.

Women's Tennis Tops FDU, 5-2, to Remain Perfect at Home
The NJIT women's tennis team recorded a 5-2 victory over visiting FDU Sunday morning inside The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility. NJIT, which remains undefeated at home, standing at 2-0 and 2-2 overall, won five out of the six singles matches to earn the 5-2 home victory. FDU took the doubles point and picked up a point at fourth singles.
