Fuad Hamidli, a senior university lecturer in the Ying Wu College of Computing and recognized expert in cryptography and cybercrime prevention, was a featured speaker and panelist at the AARP Newark Fraud Summit: Fraud 360 – Awareness, Prevention & Recovery, held in collaboration with AARP New Jersey and NJIT.
The summit brought together leading voices from cybersecurity, law enforcement, and fraud investigation, including representatives from the NJIT Police Department and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, to educate the public on the tactics scammers use—and how to guard against them. Hamidli delivered a powerful presentation on active and passive digital footprints, phishing techniques, and the psychological manipulation behind online scams.
His session was met with praise for being both accessible and impactful, combining deep technical knowledge with real-world application.
Hamidli also joined a distinguished panel of experts to discuss how scammers choose their targets, exploit data breaches, and weaponize emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. His remarks offered practical strategies for digital self-defense that resonated with a diverse audience, from students to seniors.
“I’m always honored to share knowledge that empowers our community,” he said. “Cybersecurity isn’t just a technical issue—it’s a human issue, and raising awareness is one of our most powerful tools.”
The event underscores NJIT’s ongoing commitment to public outreach and interdisciplinary collaboration in the fight against digital fraud.
