Highlanders Rally Late to Complete Sweep of UAlbany, 7-5
The Highlanders used a four-run seventh inning on Sunday afternoon to come from behind to defeat UAlbany, 7-5, to complete a three-game sweep. Ty Sallie led the offensive charge for NJIT, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.
How it Happened
For the 19th time this season, NJIT got on the board in the first inning to grab the early lead. Sallie singled with one out in the inning and worked his way around to third base with two outs. With Cole Campbell at the dish, a wild pitch allowed Sallie to come home from third with the game's first run. Sallie would score NJIT's second run of the day as well, crossing the plate on a Mason Wolf single in the third.
Brandon Peterson cruised through the first five innings of his outing, allowing just one base hit. The right-hander ran into trouble in the sixth, when the Great Danes tacked on four runs in the frame to take the lead.
The Highlanders would rally in the seventh to regain the lead. NJIT got back within a run after Ray Ortiz scored on a wild pitch to make it a 4-3 game. After two walks and a sacrifice bunt, Campbell hit a sacrifice fly to center to level the game up at 4-4. Next, Austin Francis hit a grounder that got through the legs of the third baseman, allowing two runs to score to put NJIT back ahead.
NJIT would pick up an insurance tally in the eighth, as Sallie capped off his strong day with an RBI single to center. Colin Kidd and Anthony Anzaldi worked efficiently in relief of Peterson to keep UAlbany's offense at bay to secure the sweep
