Men's Volleyball Earns 3-1 Win Over St. Francis Brooklyn on Senior Night
The NJIT men's volleyball team earned a 3-1 EIVA Conference home victory over St. Francis Brooklyn on Senior Night Friday evening inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.
In pregame ceremonies, NJIT honored its six graduating seniors – Derek Evans, Will Andrews, Jens Feldthus, Zachary Hresko, Roque Nido and Joe Kennedy.
The win for NJIT is the 14th of the season which marks the most wins since the 2007 season when the Highlanders finished with 19. NJIT concluded its home slate with an 11-2 mark. The 11 wins are tied for most wins at home inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center since the building opened in 2017-18 (Men's Basketball; 11 wins - 2018-19 season).
NJIT won the first set of the match, 25-23 and visiting St. Francis Brooklyn evened the match at 1-1 with a 26-24 victory in the second frame. The Highlanders won the next two sets 25-18 and 25-23 to secure the 3-1 home victory on Senior Night.
Leading the way for the Highlanders was redshirt junior Jens Feldthus with 14 kills, followed by Martin de Chavarria (12) and Will Andrews (11). The marks for de Chavarria and Andrews are new personal-best marks. De Chavarria finished the match with a .545 hitting percentage while Feldthus registered a .419 mark.
Senior Zachary Hresko led the Highlanders with 36 assists and added nine digs, three block assists and one ace. Libero Joe Kennedy combined for six digs.
In the service ace category, de Charvarria notched three aces as the Highlanders held a 10-to-5 advantage. Feldthus added three aces.
In front of the net, de Chavarria recorded four total blocks (one solo, three assist) followed by Hresko with three block assists.
St. Francis Brooklyn had three players reach double-digit kills paced by David Vorfi (14), Bartek Zielinski (12) and James Henneberry (10).
Lucas Blanco led the match with 38 assists and Vorfi shared match-high honors with Hresko, combining for nine digs.
