Track and Field Adds Three More Medals To Close Out America East Outdoors

The NJIT track and field teams finished their second America East Outdoor Championships meet on Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Vermont. Both teams improved their scoring from their 2021 debut, with the men's team totaling 39 points (8th place; 31 in 2021) and the women's team tallying 23 points (9th place; 10.5 in 2021).
NJIT MEDALISTS
- Matt Bacchi, Michael Girock, Thomas Van Saders, and Jacob Leigh held off UMBC to finish as runners-up in the 4x400 relay (3:17.40; 8 pts)
- Sydne Nance gave the Highlander women their second medal and All-Conference honoree after ending the 400 meters with a bronze (55.36; 6 pts)
- Van Saders picked up the men's only individual medal with a bronze in the 400 hurdles (53.82; 6 pts)
- All individual medalists and winning relay teams at the Championships are awarded America East All-Conference honors.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
- Nia Holloway ran a fifth place time in the 100 meters to post four points to the women's ledger (12.28; +1.3)
- Grace Burke, Nadia Zhecheva, Stuti Vyas, and Nance also took fifth place, running the 4x400 relay in 3:57.69 (4 pts).
- The 4x100 Relay team of Holloway, Sydne Nance, Lillian Williams, and Jadyn Otto took sixth in their race (48.95; 3 pts)
- Jacob Leigh just missed out on bronze medals in the high jump (1.96m / 6-5.00; 5 pts), 400 meters (48.07; 5 pts), and the 4x100 relay alongside Ndubuisi Obi, Hamza Qureshi, and Eugene Graves II (42.46; 5 pts) with fourth place finishes.
- Michael Girock joined Leigh in the 400 meters top five, taking fifth in the race (48.72; 4 pts).
- Thomas Van Saders added three points by finishing the 110 hurdles in sixth place (15.01; +1.7)
- Waheeb Khan earned one point by placing eighth in the triple jump (13.35m / 43-9.75; +2.4w).
- Joseph Mucci, David Munera, Matthew Morena, and David Essel ended the 4x800 relay in eighth place (school record 8:04.04; 1 pt).
