Improving Outcomes: NJIT Starts Program to Help Asians, Pacific Islanders Transition into College
With $1.94 million in federal funding, New Jersey Institute of Technology is launching a new program that will help Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander students navigate the academic, social and emotional challenges of transitioning into college. The initiative, known as Improving AANAPI Student Outcomes Through Opportunities for Engagement, or ISOTOPE, begins next summer with academic and experiential orientation for 175 first-year AANAPI students.

Celebrating NJIT's Hispanic/Latino Employee Resource Group
NJIT has established employee resource groups (ERG) that meet regularly and encourage faculty and staff to connect outside of their direct working relationships. This month, NJIT is celebrating its Hispanic/Latino ERG and profiled two of its members: Vivian Lanzot, director of Community and Public Service in the Career Development Services office; and Roberto Rojas-Cessa, professor in the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

Atilla Sivri - ECE PhD Student of the Month - October 2023
Atilla Sivri is a Ph.D. student in the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He has the privilege of working under the guidance of Dr. Moshe Kam, who is his Ph.D. advisor, and the Dean of the Newark College of Engineering (NCE). His primary research focus is on refining pulse oximetry sensors. These sensors play a pivotal role in health monitoring and are often used by nurses and doctors to quickly assess the condition of a patient presented to them.

NJIT Researchers Launch Project to Improve Energy and Climate Justice in New Jersey
A new project led by New Jersey Institute of Technology researchers is underway to help New Jersey’s lower-income homeowners take advantage of the state’s clean energy programs. The initiative arrives in support of the state’s recent commitments to the Clean Energy Act outlined in the New Jersey Energy Master Plan: Pathway to 2050, which includes “developing a community solar program that allows more state residents to benefit from solar energy, especially low- and moderate-income (LMI) families.”

Women's Volleyball Defeats UAlbany in Straight Sets for First America East Victory
The NJIT women's volleyball team earned its first America East Conference victory of the season on Sunday, defeating visiting UAlbany in straight sets at the Wellness and Events Center. The Highlanders are now 1-1 in America East action. Sunday's match was UAlbany's first conference tilt of the season. NJIT got off to great starts in each of the first two sets, but the Great Danes made things interesting before the Highlanders held them off with wins of 25-21 and 25-22, respectively.

Annual NJIT GirlHacks Competition Goes into Space, and Beyond
LunaTech, a web application where players can learn about space from a cartoon cat and send their professors into orbit, won first place in GirlHacks 2023 at New Jersey Institute of Technology. The application is the brainchild of Fizah Fahad, Adrianna Rust and Ayushi Sangoi, who combined to win a $1,500 cash prize for their efforts. The trio coded in CSS, JavaScript, Python and a NASA programming interface.

NJIT, Montclair State to Revamp Yogi Berra Stadium as NJIT Baseball Finds a New Home
Two New Jersey universities are coming together to ensure the future of one of northern New Jersey’s signature baseball venues. Montclair State University and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) are partnering to renovate Yogi Berra Stadium, part of a multi-million-dollar collaboration that will provide a home field for both schools’ NCAA baseball programs. The project will have a total cost of $5.3 million, which will revamp the stadium for the 2024 season.

NJIT Improves Globally, Domestically in Times Higher Ed Rankings
Continuing a trend, New Jersey Institute of Technology significantly improved its standing in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2024. NJIT now finds itself in the top 25% of the more than 1,900 universities that Times Higher Education ranked globally (401-500) — up from the top third last year (601-800). Among U.S. universities, NJIT stands at No. 87, an improvement of 27 places from last year (114).

NJIT Mens Soccer Shuts Out Sacred Heart 4-0, Augo Scores Pair of Goals
Junior forward Asembo Augo scored a pair of goals and the Highlanders recorded its first shutout of the season with a 4-0 home victory over visiting Sacred Heart Saturday evening at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. NJIT, which won its second straight match of the season, improves to 3-2-2 overall and remains undefeated at home, standing at 3-0-1. Sacred Heart moves to 3-4-0 overall on the season.

Alumna Tessy Ritchie on Shaping the MedTech Industry with the FDA
Since graduating from NJIT in 2012 with a B.S. in chemistry, Tessy Ritchie has found success as a chemist, recently taking a leading role in shaping the future of public health and booming medical technology industry expected to reach nearly $580 billion by the end of 2023.
