Dear Highlanders and Friends,
Today we celebrate Veterans Day, and I wish to thank the NJIT community members who are veterans of, or currently serve in, the U.S. Armed Forces for their service to our nation and their sacrifices.
Thousands of our graduates and hundreds of our students, as well as many faculty and staff, have served in the military throughout the years, and NJIT has tremendous appreciation for those in the Armed Forces. Our university also has deep and meaningful connections to the United States military. We have been home to Air Force ROTC Detachment 490 since 1949. That unit has been training and commissioning new leaders as 2nd Lieutenants for the United States Air Force for almost 75 years.

NJIT also has an extensive history of partnership with the military through research and technological innovation related to issues of national defense, security, resource management/resiliency, logistics and supply chain management, and servicemember safety and wellness. Our Institute for Brain and Neuroscience Research is delivering life-enhancing therapies, disrupting the chemical pathways of addiction, and mitigating the effects of neurological diseases and traumatic brain injuries, such as those frequently suffered by soldiers.
I also am proud to say that we have been recognized among the top colleges and universities nationwide for veteran friendliness, earning a silver designation by Military Friendly Schools for 2023-24.
It is with tremendous respect and admiration that we thank our veterans for their service to our nation and for the many sacrifices that they and their loved ones have made for all of us. Happy Veterans Day, and thank you!
Sincerely,
Teik C. Lim
NJIT President
