NJIT Completes Three-Game Series Sweep of UAlbany with Wild 12-10 Victory on Saturday
The NJIT baseball team trailed 5-0 early and 10-9 late against UAlbany on Saturday, but the Highlanders came from behind and eventually earned a 12-10 victory to complete the three-game America East Conference series sweep of the Great Danes. NJIT has now won four straight and seven of its last eight to improve to 10-9 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The Great Danes, who came into the weekend with an impressive 11-5 record, are now 11-8 on the season and 2-4 in America East action.

NJIT Ranked Top 100 Engineering Grad School by US News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report has released its 2023 rankings for the nation’s top graduate schools, with NJIT ranked among the best for graduate degree programs in engineering. The university slots in this year at No. 86 — up two positions from the prior year and 25 positions in the past eight years — and has been included on the distinguished list since 2003. The 2023 rankings mark the seventh consecutive year NJIT has appeared in the top 100.

Engineering Professor Helps Invent New Methods of Data Management
Reflect for a moment on how you'd manage your terabyte-scale hard drive if the data were literally one million times bigger. Then you'd be working with exabytes, which is the reality for supercomputer users at federal laboratories across the country, one of which is relying on Assistant Professor Qing Liu to mitigate their information storage problems by studying new methods of data reduction.

Hillier College Students Share Their Experiences on Amazon College Tour
The New Jersey Institute of Technology is the first college in New Jersey to be featured in The College Tour, an Amazon Prime TV series produced by Emmy-nominated producer Lisa Hennessy and hosted by Alex Boylan. Each 30-minute episode provides a unique video tour of one US university, offering an insider perspective of the campus life, academics, athletics, all through student testimonials.

Design Showcase 2022 Presents Creativity, Practicality, Innovation and Design Process
Hillier College signature fundraising event Design Showcase 2022 will be held on Thursday, April 7 from 4:30 to 7:30pm in Weston Hall at NJIT. As always the event will present top students and alumni work. In its 16th year now, the idea of a fundraising event was percolated from a conversation between the Alumni and the College Administrators about an effective venue for connecting the alumni and the students.

Taro Narahara Receives National Institute of Informatics Excellence Award
Taro Narahara, associate professor at the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, has received the Excellence Award at the Informatics Research Data Repository (IDR) User Forum 2021 from the National Institute of Informatics (NII) Japan. The awarded work ‘Prediction and analysis of living comfort of real estate properties using Graph Neural Networks,’ Narahara co-authored with Ryodai Kitabayashi, Satoshi Kasanishi, Toshihiko Yamasaki at the University of Tokyo.

The Practice of the Future: an Interview with Vivian Lee
Vivian Lee, FAIA, LEED AP, is the New York Studio Executive Director at Woods Bagot. With 30 years of experience, she has led award-winning projects in Europe, Asia, and the US. In 2020, Lee was elevated to the College of Fellows by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). She is on the Board of Directors for the AIA New York Chapter and is Co-Chair of the AIANY Women in Architecture Committee, where she mentors young architects and celebrates women in leadership roles.

Airport City Newark Coalition Awarded Fourth Round of Funding
Led by the members of the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, the Airport City Newark (ACN) coalition recently received a fourth round of funding from the Prudential Foundation to further investigate the feasibility of their Aerotropolis concept, a transit-oriented development in the vicinity of the Newark International Airport. Geographically, the primary beneficiary of the proposed redevelopment will be the South Ward in the City of Newark. It is a strategy that promotes reshaping cities around the changing nature of air transport and global digital communication.

Hawk Watch: Livestream Life Inside NJIT's Rare Red-Tailed Hawk Nest
NJIT has landed some unexpected residents recently, and they’ll be getting plenty of “airtime” as they settle into their new home. In fact, they’ll have their own channel where you can check them (and their new crib) out, 24/7. Two red-tailed hawks (Buteo jamaicensis) have begun a rare urban nest on a sixth-story ledge of the campus’s Albert Dorman Honors College (ADHC) Residence Hall on Colden Street.

Making Change: Women Designing an Environmentally Just Future
Libby Washburn, Special Assistant to the President for Native Affairs at the White House, will be the keynote speaker at the conference, Women Designing an Environmentally Just Future, to be held on the NJIT campus and virtually on March 25. The conference will focus on the communities hit first and hardest by climate change and environmental degradation, while highlighting the work of local leaders to reverse the damage.

Ali Emadi - ECE PhD Student of the Month - March 2022
Ali Emadi is a Ph.D. candidate in the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He works under the supervision of Professor Ali Abdi. His research focuses on systems biology and is cross disciplinary at the intersection of molecular biology, neuroscience, and signal processing. His leisure time is primarily spent working out and amateur modeling.

IST Help Desk Moving to Van Houten Library, Forensics Lab Gets Former Spot
NJIT's Information Services and Technology help desk is relocating to Van Houten Library, which should give users a more constructive experience. The move is happening in the next few weeks, mutually motivated by IST's desire for a prominent, more modern facility and the library's role as a 21st-century technology hub.

NJIT's Second Elementary STEM Challenge Conquered by 30 Local Schools
Wise Wolves, a team of fifth-graders from Morristown's Unity Charter School, won this year's Elementary STEM Challenge at an awards ceremony in the Campus Center ballroom on Monday. The event provides scientific and technical opportunities to students including girls, minorities, and underserved communities that may lack resources. It's organized by the NJIT Center for Pre-College Programs and began last year as a virtual conference, due to the COVID pandemic, moving back on campus this year.

With a Beam and Crane, NJIT Marks Milestone in Dorm Construction
A gleaming white concrete beam was signed by well-wishers and lifted by crane to the roof of a new residence hall going up at New Jersey Institute of Technology to mark a milestone in a project that began with administrative conversations three years ago and will end this fall with the opening of Maple Hall. The eight-story, U-shaped building will have 176 apartment-style units for one or two students and feature amenities such as full kitchens, a convenience store, grass courtyard, fire pit and group rooms for studying and gaming.
