Ying Wu College of Computing Shatters Enrollment Records in Fall 2022
Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) continues its upward trajectory as an NJIT enrollment leader, achieving a 17% increase relative to last year for a total of almost 4,100 students enrolled for the Fall 2022 semester. As such, YWCC now represents 34% of the entire NJIT student body for the new academic year. Close to 23% of YWCC students are women, up from 21% two years ago.

Johmary Adames Discovers a New Side of Art & Design at NJIT
Johmary Adames, an industrial design major at New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design, is excited for the new semester. After participating in the Highlander Foundry program over the summer where she experienced entrepreneurship first-hand, she feels empowered to one day use her design knowledge in a company of her own.

Jennifer Hensley '15, who majored in chemical engineering and now works for Merck helping determine long-term strategies for cancer immunotherapy drugs, told the incoming class at NJIT convocation yesterday that networking and time management were the most important skills you can learn outside of the classroom.

NJIT Women's Volleyball Splits Saturday Matches to Finish Weekend 2-1
The NJIT women's volleyball team won its second match in as many days on Saturday, defeating Saint Peter's in straight sets after suffering a four-set loss to host Providence earlier in the afternoon at Alumni Hall. The victory over the Peacocks was the Highlanders' second in as many days and third of the season after finishing the 2021 campaign with two wins.

Own Goal Lifts NJIT Men's Soccer Win at La Salle

U.S. News & World Report Ranks NJIT a Top 100 National University
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has continued its climb up the annual U.S. News & World Report rankings of colleges and universities by breaking into the top 100 National Universities for 2023. Now ranked No. 97 in the nation, NJIT has risen 21 places in the last two years.

Xueyu Hou - ECE PhD Student of the Month - September 2022
Xueyu Hou a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at NJIT, advised by Dr. Tao Han. Her research interests include deep Learning acceleration in mobile and edge computing, security of machine learning, distributed machine learning on edge, mixed reality, and live volumetric streaming. Before her current Ph.D. program, she was in power electronics area where she did research on power semiconductors and microgrids.

NJIT Continues Expansion With Record-Setting Incoming Class
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is starting the 2022 academic year by setting records with its largest and most diverse student body ever. Total projected enrollment is up 21% over the last 10 years to hit its highest mark yet at 12,000 students. The fall first-year cohort makes up a sizable part of that growth with over 1,600 enrollees, a 30% increase from last year’s class, as of Sept. 1.

NJIT Research on Nanoporous Materials Would Make Electronics Stronger, Safer
Scientists at NJIT and in Germany are working to understand how ions congregate around nanoporous materials, which could lead to safety and reliability improvements for electronic components such as supercapacitors and microscopically tiny actuators. Nanoscale porous materials are used in everyday objects such as household water filters and gas masks, but there is little research into how such surfaces behave when interacting with electrolytes, which can create internal stress that changes the material's physical properties.

Kaily, Nyssa and Oluwanifemi: Meet the 2022 Mayor's Honors Scholars at NJIT
Oluwanifemi Fuwa fabricated face masks to protect people from COVID-19. Kaily Peixoto volunteered at a senior center and handed out scarves to homeless individuals at Newark’s Penn Station. Nyssa Nixon volunteered at Isaiah House shelter through Jack and Jill of America and tutored peers as a member of the National Honor Society. They did it all as high school students in Newark, even while achieving exceptional marks in class. And now each is embarking on her first year at New Jersey Institute of Technology. NJIT Rises to No. 75 on Forbes' 2022 List of America's Top Colleges
New Jersey Institute of Technology jumped 114 places to No. 75 on Forbes’ 2022 list of America’s Top Colleges. The national ranking is based primarily on return on investment and outcomes for students. “Schools placed well if their students graduated on time, secured high salaries and low debt and went on to have successful careers,” Forbes explained.

NJIT Jumps in 'Washington Monthly' Rankings, Top 25 Value University in the Northeast
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) improved in Washington Monthly’s college rankings, breaking into the top 25 for the publication’s “Best Bang for Your Buck” rankings for Northeast colleges and universities. The value ranking is a measure of the social mobility metrics from the main rankings of four-year institutions. NJIT has vaulted 125 positions in the Northeast social mobility ranking since 2020.

NJIT Awarded $1.1 Million to Broaden Access for Low-Income, First-Gen College Students
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has been awarded three Upward Bound grants by the U.S. Department of Education totaling $1,168,939 that will help pave the way for hundreds of Newark high school students to pursue a college degree. Upward Bound — one of seven federal TRIO programs created by the Higher Education Act of 1965 — funds and supports higher education opportunities for students from low-income families, as well as those from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree.

Goldwater Scholar Creates Real-Time Air Quality Monitoring System to Implement in Newark
Vishva Rana ‘23, a Goldwater Scholar, has always been interested in addressing sustainable issues. The mechanical engineering major, minoring in innovation and entrepreneurship, has been working on a real-time air quality monitoring system and hopes to see it implemented in Newark’s Ironbound.
