Ying Wu College of Computing Shatters Enrollment Records in Fall 2022
Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) continues its upward trajectory as an NJIT enrollment leader, achieving a 17% increase relative to last year for a total of almost 4,100 students enrolled for the Fall 2022 semester. As such, YWCC now represents 34% of the entire NJIT student body for the new academic year. Close to 23% of YWCC students are women, up from 21% two years ago.
The College is one of the few in the U.S. that is devoted entirely to computing disciplines and is the largest and most comprehensive in the region. It offers students a broad array of interactive, practice-based programs, from deep Data Science to hands-on Information Technology, designed to address the needs of today’s in-demand world of technology.
YWCC graduates more than 1,000 computing professionals each year, above any other university in the tri-state area, making it the most significant contributor to the tech talent pipeline in the region. On average, 95% of YWCC graduates find their first job within 6 months of graduation or are hired directly from capstone projects, internships or co-op experiences. YWCC alumni comprise 30% of the computing professionals in New Jersey and many work at major tech companies such as Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Amazon, who have recently established a presence in the region, but also in the entire spectrum of financial, pharmaceutical, energy, telecom and transportation companies that dot the local landscape.
YWCC Dean Craig Gotsman said: “Our remarkable growth this year is aligned with our strategic plan to grow the College to 5,000 students by 2025. The regional demand for computing professionals, coupled with the outstanding and relevant education that students receive at NJIT, make YWCC an ideal and very popular choice for computing studies at all levels. We look forward to extending our reach, both nationally and internationally, in the near future.”
YWCC recently expanded beyond the main Newark campus to a graduate-level facility, NJIT@JerseyCity, providing convenient educational opportunities for working professionals in industry seeking to upskill or those wishing to transition to new careers in technology.
