NJIT Faculty Achievement Celebration Highlights Impactful Researchers, Gifted Instructors
New Jersey Institute of Technology’s annual tradition of recognizing university faculty who have excelled as researchers, scholars and instructors took place Sept. 28 in the Campus Center Ballroom.
“The faculty, staff, and administration are committed to making NJIT a vibrant community with extraordinary students who are the hallmark of a great university,” said Atam Dhawan, interim provost and senior executive vice president, who moderated the ceremony. “Although students make their own success, professors and the administration guide them along the way.”
In his inaugural faculty achievement celebration, NJIT President Teik C. Lim lauded the faculty’s contributions and dedication for NJIT’s upward trajectory and successes.
“Every faculty and staff member at NJIT is here to help our students succeed, because our most important role is to serve as an engine for opportunity,” said Lim. “This success of our students and our faculty is how we are measured, and that is why we are a Top 100 national university, and No. 42 public national university according to U.S. News & World Report.”
NJIT honored 19 faculty members with various awards including Excellence in Teaching, Excellence in Research, Overseers Excellence in Research Lifetime Achievement Award, Overseers Excellence in Research Prize and Medal, Overseers Excellence in Service Award, Master Teacher Award and the Constance A. Murray Diversity Award.
In addition to the faculty awards, the ceremony recognized newly promoted and/or tenured faculty. Robert Cohen ’83, ’84, ’87, chair of NJIT Board of Trustees, had the honor of recognizing the 16 newly promoted/tenured faculty members.
“Critical to accomplishing our mission is our faculty,” said Cohen. “This faculty is educating the next generation of leaders and this faculty is truly creating a huge favorable economic impact.”
