Mathematical Epidemiologist Sara Del Valle '00 '01 Welcomed Back at 2020 CSLA Awards
Sara Del Valle, a two-time NJIT alumna who works at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) developing models for tracking and mitigating the spread of infectious diseases, gave the keynote address at the 2020 College of Science and Liberal Arts Awards ceremony.

An NJIT Engineering Team Wins an Edison Patent Award for Sustainability
A team of NJIT engineers won a Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award in the sustainability category from the Research & Development Council of New Jersey for a resilient water treatment system that can run on waste heat or low-grade energy. The team was among 60 honorees at the Council’s virtual awards ceremony Friday night, themed “Transforming Hope into Action.”

Goldman Wins a First in the 2020 International Photography Awards
The International Photography Awards winners were announced Tuesday October 27 and this year to his happy surprise, Prof. Glenn Goldman won first place (professional) in the category "Architecture/Abstract" for the photograph "Have a Ball". This photograph was taken in Barcelona, March 2019. The photo was taken with a Sony a6500; f/10; 1/250 sec.; ISO-100; 86 mm. Following the suggestion of colleagues he entered as a professional this time around.

New Jersey Innovation Institute's BioCentriq Aims to Usher in a New Era in Cell and Gene Therapies
To overcome production hurdles for cell and gene therapies, a promising new class of biologic medications, NJIT’s New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) has opened clinical-scale centers that will work directly with drug developers to streamline the processing of new therapies and manufacture them in large quantities.

NJIT Plans New B.S. in Data Science Degree Program in Fall 2021
Responding to the surge in demand for technical skills in data science, NJIT plans to launch in fall 2021 a new Bachelor of Science in Data Science undergraduate degree, co-managed by the Ying Wu College of Computing Department of Computer Science and College of Science and Liberal Arts Department of Mathematical Sciences.

Honors College Archie 'Tech Queen' Makes 'Remote' a Verb
Nicole Campos, a freshman in the Albert Dorman Honors College pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture at Hillier College, started on her path to NJIT even before she got to high school. Her interest in architecture started when she was a kid through a curiosity of meticulous exploration in every house she entered. When it came to choosing a high school, she applied to the closest high school with specialized programs like engineering.

NJIT Undergrads Win Scholarships for Artistic Work Reimagining a Greener Planet
Undergrads Suzanne Hlinka ’21 and Nada Boules ‘21 have been applying the skills in game development and interior design that they’ve picked up at NJIT, and Mother Earth is thanking them for it. This past year, the pair of students began artistic projects promoting a more sustainable planet, and now, their creative talents have been recognized with the “Jim Wise Scholarship for Theatre: Communicating the Environment Through Art.”

America East Releases 2020-21 Men's Basketball Conference Schedule
The America East Conference has announced its league schedule, with each team playing one another twice, on back-to-back days at one single location. NJIT will host New Hampshire in its first-ever America East games Dec. 12 and 13 at the Wellness and Events Center in Newark. In addition to the Wildcats, the Highlanders will also host Maine (Jan. 9/10), Stony Brook (Jan. 23/24) and UMBC (Feb. 18/19).

NJIT Mourns the Passing of Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail
It is with great sadness that I inform you about the death of Dr. Irving Pressley McPhail, who received an honorary degree from NJIT in 2015 and served eloquently as our main Commencement speaker that year. Dr. McPhail is reported to have succumbed to complications from COVID-19 last week. He most recently was the president of St. Augustine University and enjoyed a long and distinguished career in higher education as a professor and administrator.
