NJIT Athletics to Offer Fan Cutouts for Wellness and Events Center
The NJIT Department of Athletics is pleased to offer a fan cut out program for the 2020-21 athletic season. All proceeds from this program will go to benefit the newly created Highlander Student-Athlete Health and Wellness Fund.

Engineer Nick DeNichilo Creates Resilient Infrastructure for a Volatile Century
Nicholas DeNichilo ’73, M.S. ’78 marveled as a child at the construction equipment that brought buildings, bridges and highways to life before his eyes. Decades later, he still feels that magic. Comments such as “green energy is so exciting” regularly punctuate conversations about his daily work. As the president and CEO of engineering giant Mott MacDonald, North America, DeNichilo now takes on transportation, water and energy infrastructure projects made vastly more complex by resiliency problems such as climate change and earthquakes.

Aiming Higher, NJIT Launches Unprecedented Survey of Diversity on Campus
In response to the societal call for diversity, inclusion and social justice, NJIT is embarking on a groundbreaking and comprehensive survey of its entire campus community to unlock what it takes to become a model for diversity in higher education. Data from the campus climate survey will inform the steps that NJIT takes to heighten diversity within its student body, faculty and staff. The high-visibility initiative also reflects the university’s larger mission of being a preeminent polytechnic and community leader.

NJIT Team Wins Award at International Entrepreneurship Competition
A team of NJIT entrepreneurs was among those recognized by TiE Global, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship around the world, at the organization’s second annual TiE University Pitch Competition this fall, which included 13 teams representing TiE chapters from India, Israel, UAE, Israel, the U.S. and Canada.

NJIT Tops NJBIZ Reader Ranking for Third Consecutive Year
New Jersey Institute of Technology has been named a top company in NJBIZ Magazine’s annual reader ranking surveys in the “Life Sciences” and “Business Incubator” categories. The annual ranking by the business journal surveys its readership to nominate and vote for companies in over 50 different categories that include banking and finance, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, and corporate philanthropy.

The Future of Architecture Education: Barriers and Shifts
Hillier College Dean Branko Kolarevic recently participated in several forums with a focus on access and diversity in architecture education and the recent shifts to online learning. At the August panel hosted by the American Institute of Architecture New Jersey chapter (AIANJ) speakers discussed what it takes to attract students from the local community to accredited programs like the one at Hillier College, and what is required for community college courses to meet the standards of four-year colleges in order to maximize transfer credits and remove financial barriers.

NJIT Professor Awarded the IEICE Human Communication Award
Taro Narahara, associate professor in the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, has received the 2020 Human Communication Award from the Institute of Electronics, Information, and Communication Engineers (IEICE) Japan for his paper "What is the Key to Attract People in Apartments?: Construction and Analysis of Attractiveness Dataset for Real Estate Floor Plans," co-authored with Xueting Wang and Toshihiko Yamasaki at the University of Tokyo. Narahara is the first author and presented the paper at one of the IEICE conferences.

Winners of Virtual HackNJIT Made Music, Chat App, Disease Detector
Highlanders won the top three prizes at November's HackNJIT competition, with software allowing friends to remotely jam together, video chat with speech translations and even detect pneumonia in chest X-rays. The annual event was virtual this year due to COVID-19, which for a hackathon tends to mean fewer hardware hacks, as those require in-person work, and instead focused more on software in the form of mobile and web applications.

NJIT's Hydrogen-Powered Hy-Lander Wins the Poster Competition in the Chem-E-Car Finals
NJIT’s Chem-E-Car team, developers of the self-driving, hydrogen-powered Hy-Lander, won first place this past weekend for their poster in the championship round of the international student competition.
