Alumna Masha Drozdov '09 on Responsibility and the Value of Technical Skills
Masha Drozdov is a frequent guest critic for the advanced integrated architecture studios at Hillier College and Columbia GSAPP and has also participated as a guest for the Alumni Tea discussions at NJIT with students who are figuring out what their career paths will be. Masha’s admiration for Louis Kahns’ work and a fourth year NJIT project has been an inspiration for her volunteer work at Four Freedoms Park on Roosevelt Island. She has been a docent at the park since 2012.

Two NJIT Engineers are Elected 2020 Fellows of the National Academy of Inventors
Two pioneering researchers, Rajesh Davé, a distinguished professor of chemical and materials engineering, and MengChu Zhou, a distinguished professor of electrical and computer engineering, were recently elected fellows of National Academy of Inventors (NAI). Davé and Zhou join 173 other academic innovators, together representing 115 research universities and governmental and non-profit research institutes, in this year’s class of fellows. Collectively, the group holds more than 4,700 issued U.S. patents. Davé has 15 U.S. patents and Zhou has 14.

Architecture Students Propose NJIT Master Plan, New Building Designs
It is a long-standing practice within architecture studios to assign real-world projects to students as they develop the skills to build for the future. In a studio taught by Associate Professor Darius Sollohub, the reimagining of the Mueller Florist Supplies site continues this practice.

Lyzi Litwinko Tabs Second Straight America East Conference Rookie of the Week Honor
Freshman Lyzi Litwinko was selected America East Conference Rookie of the Week for the second straight week the league office announced on Monday. The 5-foot-8 guard from Berlin, CT, averaged 9.5ppg and 5.5rpg in a pair of games for the Highlanders last week. Litwinko shot 42 percent on the week and matched her career-high with 11 points on Saturday against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Inculcating Ethics in Engineers
J. Britt Holbrook, a philosopher who specializes in science policy, is designing an innovative course in engineering ethics that focuses on justice and societal impact. The goal of the course is to help engineering students better understand how their future actions and decisions as engineers can directly affect the lives of individuals and communities at large.

Engineering Graduates Bring Tech Skills and Gwara Gwara to the Lone Star State
When Jeffrey Jude-Ibe ’20 flew to Dallas in September to begin work as a quality engineer at Texas Instruments, Kelvin Siebeng ’19, the person who put the semiconductor giant on his job-search horizon, picked him up at the airport. With 3 full-time offers from major corporations and another from the FBI at his choosing, Siebeng also cemented the deal.

Lyzi Litwinko Selected America East Rookie of the Week
Freshman guard Lyzi Litwinko has been selected America East Conference Rookie of the Week the league office announced on Monday. In a 1-1 week for the Highlanders, Litwinko averaged 6.5 points-per-game and 5.0 rebounds-per-game in two conference games, making 50% of her three-point shots. She scored 11 points, notching four rebounds and three assists in NJIT's first America East Conference game – a 78-57 win over New Hampshire.

NJIT Registers First America East Win, Stoll and Squier Lead All Scorers with 19 Points
NJIT captured its first America East Conference victory Saturday afternoon led by senior Ellyn Stoll and sophomore Kenna Squier's game-high 19 points en route to a 78-57 victory over New Hampshire at Lundholm Gymnasium in the conference opener for both teams.

Hillier Design Professor Wins Awards for Augmented Reality Prototype
Hannah Kum-Biocca, an assistant professor at NJIT’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design, won two awards for an augmented reality project that she submitted to the EuroXR 2020 conference in Valencia, Spain. In her project, visitors to physical museums can wear a Microsoft Hololens headset to gain additional information about artifacts, such as looking at a real painting by Vincent van Gogh and seeing a virtual 3-D image of the painter himself standing in his bedroom and art studio, while talking about it in his own words.

Free Android Dev Course Will be Taught by NJIT Students in Spring 2021
This spring semester, NJIT students will have the chance to participate in a free Android mobile app development course backed by major tech companies including Amazon, Cognizant, Facebook, and Microsoft, along with retail giant Walmart. The course is run by CodePath.org, a nonprofit organization that offers free software development courses with the goal of making computer science education more equitable, inclusive and effective.

New NJIT Course Puts Students in Charge of Planning a Business
Students in a new NJIT course that delivers the experience of planning a business on campus appreciate the latitude that instructors give them to make decisions. “They guide you and respond to specific questions, but they won’t tell you exactly what to do and how,” said Marina Arrese ’21, a business major who’s part of a team in charge of finance and information systems for the class project. “They give you certain time, budget and operational constraints, but apart from that, you are free to—together with your team—make your own decisions and choose your own tools and methods.”
