NJIT-led Project 'Visualize Organic Chemistry' Gets Global Reaction
A new NJIT-led project is making learning about the abstract world of organic chemistry a fresher, interactive experience that students can now easily explore in hi-res action through their digital devices. Already, it’s created quite a reaction among young chemists and their teachers around the world. The new web project, called Visualize Organic Chemistry (VOC), was launched in March by students in the research group of NJIT Assistant Professor of Chemistry Pier Alexandre Champagne.

NJIT's student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery hosted its first cybersecurity competition last month, with one of its own members on the winning team among more than 600 participants from 26 countries.

NJIT Student Earns Top Prize in Statewide Business Pitch Competition
A computer science major at New Jersey Institute of Technology has earned the top prize in a statewide collegiate competition that judges pitches for innovative business ideas. The student, Yashwee Kothari ’22, pitched a mobile application for tracking the symptoms of people recovering from traumatic brain injuries – an idea she has been developing since high school.

Researchers Creating Drones with Artificial Intelligence to Help Firefighters
Human-computer interaction researchers at NJIT and Israel's Ben-Gurion University are exploring how AI-enabled drones could communicate with people at the scene, so that firefighters can save more lives and property. Firefighters already use drones because they can go where people can't, while human controllers are located someplace safe. But if the drones could get a dose of autonomy, through the clever use of artificial intelligence software, then their usefulness could be interactive rather than only serving as flying cameras and heat sensors.

NJIT Blasts Six HRs in Sunday Doubleheader to Take Series From No. 26 Stony Brook
A day after sweeping a doubleheader from No. 26 Stony Brook, the NJIT baseball team earned a split to take the four-game America East series in wild fashion on Sunday at Jim Hynes Stadium on the campus of Kean University. Stony Brook (20-11, 16-4 America East) took game one 5-2 and led by as many as six early in game two, before a ferocious come back from NJIT (11-19, 10-14 America East) gave the Highlanders a walk-off 9-8 victory. All three of NJIT's win's this weekend came by one run. Game One

NJIT and the Newark Airport City Coalition Partner with Cities and Airports
April 30th, from 8:15am - 4pm NJIT and the Newark Airport City Coalition are hosting a one-day virtual conference focused on how cities can work together with their airports to optimize economic, societal, and environmental benefits in support of job generation and equitable, inclusive growth. Two key sessions will address the successes of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Amsterdam Airport- Schiphol and their airport city strategies.

Men's Swimming Takes Third At America East Championships, Horstkamp-Vinekar Named Top Rookie
The NJIT men's swimming and diving team wrapped up its first-ever America East Swimming Championships appearance Sunday evening, claiming third place overall with a total of 614 points. Binghamton took the men's championship with 889 points and UMBC placed second with 872. In the women's swimming championships, New Hampshire prevailed (817 points) over UMBC (621.5) and Vermont (613.5).

NJIT Selected as EPA Region 2 Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities Provider
NJIT has been chosen by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to provide training and technical assistance to communities in EPA Region 2, which comprises New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, under the Technical Assistance to Brownfields (TAB) Program.

Interior Designers Palacio and des Lauriers Win Awards and Recognition
Nicole Palacio and Okhyun Des Lauriers were both awarded scholarships for interior design by the Network of Executive Women in Hospitality (NEWH). Palacio is a 3rd year design student who submitted work she completed in 2nd year with Prof. Goldman. Des Lauriers is also a third year interior design student.

Hillier College Welcomes New Director to the School of Architecture
Kelly Hutzell, an urban designer and licensed architect, brings fifteen years of teaching and academic program development experience to her role as director of the School of Architecture at NJIT. Her academic career has been bolstered by more than a decade of practice, including at Machado and Silvetti Associates and OverUnder in Boston focused on public buildings and spaces. Having worked at Carnegie Mellon (formerly Carnegie Tech) and Wentworth Institute of Technology, she is aligned with the lineage of all three of these polytechnic institutions.

Celebrating NJIT Scholarships: Student, Alum Thank Donors for Support
A generous scholarship enabled Charu Arya to attend New Jersey Institute of Technology, and her professors helped solidify her career path. Indeed, both financial assistance and academic support fueled her success. Arya ’21 reflected on that fruitful journey during NJIT’s annual Scholarship Brunch, sharing a pivotal moment during her sophomore year when she reconsidered her initial decision to study medicine.
