Men's Tennis Wins Again, Improves to 3-0
The NJIT men's tennis team improved its season-opening win streak to three on Sunday, defeating host Bucknell 5-2 at the Central Pennsylvania Tennis Center.
The Highlanders are 3-0 on the season, while the Bison dropped to 1-2.
"It was great to pick up our first road win," explained Head Coach Ira Miller. "We took the momentum with the doubles point and closed out nicely in four of the six singles matches."
Similar to last Sunday's win vs. La Salle, NJIT won two of three in doubles play to go ahead 1-0, before taking four of six in singles play to earn the 5-2 victory.
In doubles action, Josh Smith and Samuel Townes won 6-0 at the #1 spot, while Ammar Fekry and Ashwin Kanetkar were victorious at the #3 spot by a score of 6-4.
Smith, Townes, Kanetkar, and Fekry were each also victorious in singles play on Sunday.
Townes, a sophomore, and Kanetkar, a freshman, are both 3-0 in singles action this season. Townes has played all three of his matches this season at the #4 position, while Kanetkar has only played at #5.
"Sam and Josh played their best singles and doubles of the year," added Miller. "Ammar started his first match and gave us a win at #6, while Ashwin continued with his mature, focused play."
The Highlanders return to the court on Wednesday when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at the Naimoli Tennis Center in Newark. First serve is slated for 1pm. Last season, NJIT defeated the Knights 4-3 in Newark.
