It's the End of an Era at the Educational Opportunity Program
Tony Howell’s office on the third floor of NJIT’s Campbell Hall is as much a retrospective of the past two decades of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), of which he has been executive director since 1997, as it is a testament to the devotion of the man himself. Pictures of EOP students, many with Howell by their side, adorn the walls, and trinkets from the program line the window shelf along the back of the room.

Three Highlanders Earn 2018 ASUN Conference Academic Team Honors
Seniors Brian Sondergard and Jesse Uttendorfer and junior Sean Lubreski were named to the 13-person ASUN All-Academic team the conference announced on the eve of the 2018 ASUN Baseball Tournament. Thirteen athletes appear on the 2018 ASUN Baseball All-Academic squad with the highest vote-getters receiving Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honors. New Jersey Institute of Technology Partners with Woz U
Technology-based education start-up Woz U, announced today a partnership with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), one of only 32 polytechnic universities in the United States. The partnership will enable NJIT to offer Woz U’s refined Cyber Security and Software Developer programs to companies so they can upskill their workforces and remain up-to-date with the latest computer programs, practices and procedures.

Men's Volleyball Adds Five to Roster for 2019 Season
NJIT men's volleyball coach Danny Goncalves announced the addition of five newcomers, who will join the Highlanders for the upcoming 2019 season. The incoming group includes: transfer Enrique de Diego Garcia (MB; Madrid, Spain), Roque Nido (S; Guayama, Puerto Rico), Jens Feldhus (OH; Frederiksberg, Denmark), Derek Evans (M/OPP; Virginia Beach, VA) and Will Andrews (OH; Lexington, KY).

Expanded Owens Valley Solar Array Reveals New Insights into Solar Flares' Explosive Energy Releases
Last September, a massive new region of magnetic field erupted on the Sun’s surface next to an existing sunspot. The powerful collision of magnetic fields produced a series of potent solar flares, causing turbulent space weather conditions at Earth. These were the first flares to be captured, in their moment-by-moment progression, by NJIT’s recently expanded Owens Valley Solar Array (EOVSA).

It's Official! NJIT Unveils Leir Research Institute for Business, Technology, and Society
It was a gathering to not only inaugurate a new research institute on the NJIT campus, but also celebrate a longstanding relationship between the university and a committed foundation partner and benefactor. On April 30, NJIT administrators, faculty, staff and students, as well as distinguished guests, joined one another in the Campus Center Ballrooms to officially launch The Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Research Institute for Business, Technology, and Society, made possible with a five-year $1.5 million grant from The Leir Charitable Foundations.

Three Highlander Programs Receive NCAA Academic Performance Public Recognition
Three NJIT Athletic programs were recognized in the 2018 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program for ranking in the top 10 percent for Academic Progress Rate (APR) in their respective sport announced on Wednesday. The NJIT men's cross country, men's volleyball and women's volleyball programs all had scores in the top 10 percent of their respective sport. Each team's multi-year rates were 1,000 each.

At 74, Chris Antholis is One of NJIT's Newest Grads
It was about five minutes after Robert Dresnack’s Water Resources Engineering class had begun when a septuagenarian poked his head into the room. Puzzled, the professor inquired, “May I help you?” In fact, he could. “I’m a student in this class,” replied Chris Antholis, then 72, who was six years into his quest to earn a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering. The required course, on the increasingly urgent topic of water supply planning, had not yet been scratched off his list. He quickly took a seat at an empty desk.

NJIT Clinches Spot in ASUN Tournament with Doubleheader Sweep Over North Florida
NJIT clinched a spot in the 2018 ASUN Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep, 3-1 and 7-1, over visiting North Florida Thursday afternoon in ASUN Conference action at Jim Hynes '63 Stadium on the campus of Kean University. With Thursday's sweep over the Ospreys, NJIT will make the programs first ASUN Conference postseason appearance since joining the league in 2015-16. NJIT evens its overall record to 22-22 and moves into fourth place in the ASUN standings with a record of 9-11. North Florida drops to 25-26 overall, 9-11 in the league.

Finance Graduate Harpuneet Kaur Lands Job at IEX
Harpuneet Kaur is all smiles on a Friday afternoon as she seats herself at a table in the main communal area of The Henry J. and Erna D. Leir Research Institute for Business, Technology, and Society, on the NJIT campus. The Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM) finance major is happy to have her exams behind her and the MTSM awards ceremony and NJIT commencement just ahead. Her parents have arrived from India to attend the festivities and with a full-time position awaiting her at IEX, the Investors Exchange, life is good.

NJIT's 102nd Commencement Continues at the WEC
Following its 102nd commencement ceremony May 16 at the Prudential Center in Newark, which recognized undergraduate and doctoral students, NJIT continued the festivities at its new Wellness and Events Center (WEC) yesterday and today. There, the university conferred degrees to master’s students from all five academic schools. The occasions marked not only an educational milestone for the graduates, but also the first time commencement was held at the WEC.

Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) honored Judith Sheft, associate vice president technology & enterprise development, New Jersey Innovation Institute at NJIT, alongside 31 of New Jersey’s most influential and accomplished women leaders including special guest honoree, first lady Tammy Snyder Murphy, at the organization’s signature biennial gala, Salute to the Policy Makers at The Palace at Somerset Park. Sheft was recognized for her trailblazing professional achievements and her efforts toward advancing women’s leadership.

Men Place Fourth and Women Sixth at the ASUN Track & Field Championships
NJIT men's and women's track & field finished competing at the 2018 ASUN Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday hosted by North Florida. The Highlander men placed fourth with 67 total points behind Kennesaw State, Lipscomb and North Florida, and the women came in sixth with 19 points. The Highlanders posted 17 points in the men's javelin throw, with McNamara taking first place with a new personal mark of 54.69m. The senior was the first Highlander to repeat gold at the ASUN Championships.
