Lewis Terrorizes Terriers in NJIT's 82-60 Rout
Senior Abdul Lewis put forth a monster performance with game-highs in points (19), rebounds (16), assists (3) and blocks (5) in leading NJIT past St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday at the Wellness and Events Center (WEC). As of publishing time, the Highlanders are one of just 12 teams in the nation with nine wins.

NJIT Picks Up First Road Win of the Season, 72-51, at LIU Brooklyn
NJIT picked up its first road win of the season, led by a season-best 21 points from graduate student Tatianna Torres in the Highlanders' 72-51 victory at LIU Brooklyn in women's basketball non-conference action at the Steinberg Center Sunday afternoon. NJIT (2-8) snaps a three-game skid while LIU Brooklyn (0-9) remains winless on the season. NJIT led 21-20 at the end of the first quarter and held the home team to single digits (six) in the second quarter, taking a 38-25 advantage heading into the half.

Indoor Track and Field Captures 10 First-Place Finishes at the Fordham Christmas Invitational
The NJIT indoor track and field teams captured 11 first-place finishes at the Fordham Christmas Invitational held at the Vince Lombardi Center Friday afternoon. In the men's 60 meter hurdles, the Highlanders finished 1-2-3, led by Kadeem Spencer with a time of 8.98 followed by Connor Penrod (9.02) and Randy Fabian (9.25). Graduate student Alex Ortega won the men's 400 meter with a time of 49.87 and led off the 4x400 relay, which consisted of Acacio Escada, Shawn Mageean and Ryan Budhu, picking up a first-place finish with a time of 3:25.90.

NJII Hosts FDA Director for Biologics Evaluation and Research at Industry Roundtable
The New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT Corporation, hosted Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Director Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CEBR), Peter Marks M.D., Ph.D., at a roundtable with biopharma industry leaders in early December. Dr. Marks is responsible for assuring the safety and effectiveness of biological products, including vaccines, allergenic products, blood and blood products, and cellular, tissue and gene therapies. Bats and dolphins emit sound waves to sense their surroundings; like a battery, electric fish generate electricity to help them detect motion while burrowed in their refuges; and humans use tiny movements of the eyes to perceive objects in their field of vision.

Healthcare Software Startup Establishes Newark Headquarters
A new startup company focused on software and professional services to improve community health outcomes just selected Newark as its headquarters. SRL Group, LLC, founded by two veterans of healthcare marketing, joined New Jersey Institute of Technology’s (NJIT) Enterprise Development Center (EDC) incubator at 211 Warren Street.

Highlanders are the 2018 ECAC Winter Champions
NJIT posted 1635 points to win by a whopping 329 points over the 10-team field and second-place Monmouth University (1306). In addition, NJIT's first-year head swimming and diving coach, Ron Farina, was named "Coach of the Meet." The Top-5 was rounded out by Fairfield University (1152.5), Manhattan College (1048) and Lafayette College (945).

NJIT Hangs On at Drexel for Another Impressive Road Win
Senior Abdul Lewis posted team-highs in points (17) and rebounds (10) as NJIT held off Drexel University, 70-67, on Wednesday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Highlanders have now started 4-0 on the road for the first time in 30 years -- since a 7-0 road mark to open 1988-89. In a game NJIT controlled for a majority of the time (33:19), the outcome was not determined until the final buzzer.

Ming Fang Taylor, Martin Tuchman School of Management assistant professor of accounting, received the Vernon Zimmerman Best Paper Award for her paper, “External Social Networks and Earnings Management,” at the 30th Asian-Pacific Conference on International Accounting Issues, held in November in San Francisco. The conference provides “an important forum for the interaction of different ideas and information between academicians and practitioners, in order to enhance the understanding of international accounting and business issues in various countries.”

NJIT Shoots Down Blackbirds to Improve to 6-1
Sophomore Zach Cooks scored a team-high 22 points and NJIT remained perfect on the road with a 77-70 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. With a 6-1 record, the Highlanders are off to their best start since 1994-95. Their 3-0 record away from Newark also represents their best road start since 2000-01. In fact, it also gives the Highlanders their first three-game, road winning streak since Jan. 15 to Feb. 1, 2006 (Stetson, Kennesaw, Lipscomb).

Guarino Scores Career-Best 26 Points in NJIT's 79-71 Win Over Western Carolina
Graduate student Kelly Guarino scored a career-best 26 points and head coach Mike Lane registered his first win as a Division I head coach in NJIT's 79-71 victory over Western Carolina in the NJIT Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon at the Wellness and Events Center. NJIT (1-5) snaps a five-game skid in the win while Western Carolina drops to 1-6 on the young season.

A Time for Celebration
Two distinguished individuals were recognized for achievements beneficial to the state and our nation, as well as an organization exceptional for its commitment to NJIT’s mission, at Celebration, NJIT’s annual fundraiser for campuswide scholarship endowment funds, held Nov. 9, 2018 at The Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange. Since its inception in 1995, Celebration has raised nearly $6 million in endowed scholarship funds, ensuring that top-quality higher education is accessible to talented, motivated students.
