Assistant Professor Looks at Auto Loans in Published Paper
In her paper, “An Empirical Study of Bank Stress Testing for Auto Loans,” Assistant Professor of Accounting Ming Fang presents an empirical study of stress testing for portfolios of auto loans. Along with her co-authors — Deming Wu, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, United States, and Qing Wang, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, China — she finds that loans aged five years or more have significantly higher default probabilities. This finding, they say, raises concerns about the increasing maturity of auto loans in recent years.

Men's Fencings Goes Undefeated at MACFA A vs. B
NJIT's Greg Puccio and Justin Petway paced NJIT as the Highlanders went undefeated (5-0) at the MACFA A vs. B meet hosted by the Highlanders at NJIT's Wellness and Events Center on Sunday. NJIT, which has finished the season with a 21-6 mark (77 percent win record) went undefeated topping — William & Mary (25-2), Maryland (26-1), Navy (21-6), Johns Hopkins (18-9) and Haverford (21-6) for an impressive 111-24 overall record on the day.

NJIT Finishes Opening Weekend with a 3-0-1 Mark, Game 4 Ends in 9-9 Tie
The NJIT baseball team finished opening weekend with a 3-0-1 record as the final game of the four-game series ended in a 9-9 draw with Eastern Michigan. Due to travel arrangements, both teams agreed that no inning would be start after 12:30 p.m. Central time. As the eighth inning concluded beyond that mark, the game was forced to end with a score of 9-9. The last time the Highlanders were part of tie was against Saint Peter's on March 31, 2015, an 8-8 tie after 10 innings, called due to darkness.

NJIT hosts Middle School Cyber Robotics Competition
Almost 100 middle school students from more than 40 schools across New Jersey recently participated in a cyber robotics coding competition held at NJIT. They were finalists in the New Jersey Cyber Robotics Coding Competition, an exciting online event in which students used a cloud-based simulation platform featuring a virtual, 3D animated robot.

NJIT Workshop Introduces New Jersey Teachers To World of Fantasy RPG Education
Each day, millions of gamers log online to spend their free time playing Blizzard Entertainment’s popular video game title, “World of Warcraft” — a virtual, open-box-styled “land of myth, magic and legendary adventure.” However, the immersive nature of fantasy role-playing video games — similar to that of "World of Warcraft" — has been expanding to classroom education as well.

"Psycho-geographies" Exhibition Featured in CoAD Gallery
The College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) at NJIT is honored to present an exhibition of Alexandra Schoenberg’s and Leslie Adler’s solo and collaborative works called “Psycho-geographies.” These collaborative works present the viewer with an alternating process of internalizing and projecting from the outer space of the world to the inner space of the mind. As observers, we exist outside what is observed but at the same time we internalize through empathy. We create dioramas as a vehicle for looking at what we frame and what frames us.

The College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) has released their spring lecture series lineup, which are free and open to the public. This series features an eclectic mix that includes themes like innovation, urbanism and religiosity in the public space, to the yearly design showcase signature event. NJIT Teams Nab 1st and 2nd Place in Statewide Competition
The purpose is twofold: “tap into the creative and forward-thinking minds of young people, and at the same time, encourage students to take a more active role in understanding and shaping health care.” Indeed, the second annual Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) Health Care Transformation Challenge yielded new apps and devices designed by college students with their peers top of mind.

Men's Fencing Goes 3-1 at MACFA B Round Robin
The NJIT men's fencing team recorded a 3-1 record Sunday, competing at the MACFA B Round Robin hosted by Stevens at Canavan Arena. NJIT (16-6) swept Yeshiva (27-0) while picking up wins over Army (26-1) and Hunter (23-4). The lone loss for the Highlanders came against host Stevens, in a tight match, with the Ducks, earning the 14-13 victory. Epee

In 2012, CBS’s crime-fiction television drama, “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” reached the zenith of primetime television ratings. That year, the show’s estimated 63 million viewers across five continents earned it the title of “most watched television show in the world” for the fifth time in the show’s history at the Monte Carlo Television Festival.

Women's Track and Field's Shannon Turner Selected as NJAIAW Woman of the Year
Senior Shannon Turner of women's track and field was NJIT's recipient of the New Jersey Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (NJAIAW) Woman of the Year award. Turner was among the guests of honor at the 27th Annual NJAIAW Woman of the Year luncheon held at Seton Hall University Sunday, Feb. 3. Following the luncheon, each winner was recognized at halftime of the Seton Hall women's basketball game against Butler.

Women's Tennis Edges LIU Brooklyn In 4-3 Thriller
The NJIT women's tennis team passed their toughest test of 2019, holding off the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds for a 4-3 victory Sunday evening at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility. NJIT improved to 4-0 on the season, giving the Highlanders their best start to a season since 2011 and securing their best start since joining the ASUN Conference in 2015.

Men's Fencing Goes Undefeated at Eric Sollee MIT Fencing Invitational, Women Finish 4-2
The NJIT men's fencing team went undefeated at the Eric Sollee MIT Fencing Invitational while the NJIT women went 4-2 Sunday afternoon. The NJIT men, winners of seven straight, move to 13-5 overall on the season while the NJIT women, put together a strong performance, stand at 8-6 on the year. The NJIT men went undefeated against: Haverford (18-9), Hunter (24-3), Boston Collge (W, 18-9), MIT (15-12) and Brandies (18-9) while the women defeated Haverford (19-8), Hunter (24-2), MIT (14-13) and Brandies (15-12).

NJIT Hits Season Best Five-Game Winning Streak Over FGCU
The NJIT Highlanders (18-5, 6-2 ASUN) defeated Florida Gulf Coast (8-15, 3-5 ASUN) at the Wellness and Events Center on Wednesday, 66-54. The win extended NJIT's winning streak to a season-best five as the Highlanders snatched their first win over the reigning ASUN regular season champions since 2015.

Biosensor Co-Inventor Bharath Nunna Ph.D. '18 Joins Organ-on-a-Chip Research Team at Harvard Med
The difficulty in spotting minute amounts of disease circulating in the bloodstream has proven a stumbling block in the detection and treatment of cancers that advance stealthily with few symptoms. With a novel electrochemical biosensing device that identifies the tiniest signals these biomarkers emit, a pair of NJIT inventors are hoping to bridge this gap. Their work in disease detection is an illustration of the power of electrical sensing – and the growing role of engineers – in medical research.
