LIXIN Faculty Visit Martin Tuchman School of Management
Twenty faculty members from Shanghai LIXIN University of Accounting and Finance (LIXIN) visited Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM) this past August and attended a two-week executive training program, “Training on Integrating Blockchain Education and Flipped Courses Into Teaching in the Areas of Finance and Accounting.” During their visit, LIXIN professors were able to engage in Blockchain and design thinking as part of the IBM Skills Academy program.
This is the second year MTSM provided an executive training program for LIXIN faculty. Last year, the theme was “Training on Finance and Accounting International Certifications.”
There were several distinguished guest speakers at this year’s event, including John Michel, CEO of FinTech startup, CircleBlack; Jerry Xu, investment vice president of Prudential Financial; Jan Zhuang, executive vice chairman of World Financial Group; and Le Tao, founder of an accounting firm, all of whom shared their insights on financial technology and its impact on the financial services industry.
The LIXIN faculty also visited VentureLink, a community hub for technology companies at NJIT for Northern New Jersey, and Hearst Media Group in New York City, a leading global and diversified media, information and services company with more than 360 businesses.
Feedback was very positive, with attendees describing the experience as eye opening and invaluable. Xueyang Bi, the group leader, said that “in two short weeks every one of us benefited tremendously from the program and learned a lot about NJIT. The long history of the university, talent cultivation and teaching styles of MTSM professors left a deep impression on our group. We learned not only knowledge about Blockchain, but also characteristics of NJIT professors, their strong professional backgrounds and humorous teaching methods. I would like to thank the dean of MTSM, Professor [Alan] Yan and the other professors for their great support and help!”
Xiaohuan Shen, Xi Zhang, Kexin Feng and Lin Hu, some of the group’s members, said, “‘Reading thousands of books, traveling thousands of miles’ — in two weeks we learned the cutting-edge technology of Blockchain, studied advanced management methods of American companies, and experienced different cultures at the other end of the world. The values of openness, transparency, trust and cooperation embedded in the Blockchain technology also strengthen our belief in learning new technologies and embracing the new era. Finally, we are very grateful to NJIT for providing such a great learning platform and for MTSM’s leadership and all the teachers' careful arrangements and dedication.”
Still other members — YuehongYin, Qiuxia Wang, Shu Yan and Yueling Luo — stated, “Thank you for all the professors’ interesting, informative and inspiring lectures, and thoughtful arrangement for the business visits to NJIT’s Enterprise Development Center and the Hearst Tower. We really appreciate your great effort and hospitality for this training program.”
Some other LIXIN professors said that they are dedicated to getting their IBM Blockchain Badge and promoting Blockchain teaching in China.
LIXIN is a public university with three campuses in Shanghai and over 20,000 students. In April 2019, a joint degree program in financial engineering with a concentration in FinTech between NJIT and LIXIN was approved by the Ministry of Education in China. Starting Fall 2020, this program is expected to enroll 100 students each year.
