NJIT Hosts TSA-TEAMS Competition
On Monday, March 18, 2019, NJIT will make science competitive yet fun when it hosts TEAMS, an annual science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) competition for middle and high school students that is designed to help them discover their potential for engineering, as well as inspire them to consider careers in the field.

NJIT Named a Top Graduate School for Engineering by U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 rankings for the nation’s top graduate schools are in, and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has been ranked No. 89 for its graduate degree program in engineering — marking the third consecutive year that the university has been listed among the Top 100. This year, NJIT’s Newark College of Engineering is also celebrating its 100th anniversary of public service through engineering.

On April 14, NJIT will host “Steps to a Nuclear Weapons-Free World” — an all-day conference featuring nine of the country’s leading experts in nuclear weapons and policy, who will address the critical and complex nature of the nuclear weapons issue today.

The Murray Center for Women in Technology at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will hold its fifth annual Women Designing the Future conference — “Game Changers! Technological Innovations That Will Transform Our Lives”— Friday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the university’s Campus Center Ballrooms A and B.

Diandre Wilson Named to ASUN All-Tournament Team
Senior guard Diandre Wilson has been named to the ASUN All-Tournament Team, the Atlantic Sun Conference announced today. Wilson totaled 39 points, nine rebounds, four steals, four assists and led NJIT in scoring in two ASUN Championship starts. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native scored a career-high 26 points en route to NJIT's first ASUN Championship win in program history at Florida Gulf Coast in the conference quarterfinals, 83-78.

NJIT Officially Kicks Off "New Jersey STEM Month"
This month, NJIT officially commemorated the start of “New Jersey STEM Month” — a celebration supported by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to “highlight the Garden State’s strong presence and accomplishments in science, technology, engineering and math.” To mark the occasion, NJIT President Joel S. Bloom spoke to state educators at the campus’s Central King Building regarding a number of ongoing STEM-related topics in New Jersey — from teacher recruitment and STEM workforce development and retention, to digital learning and computer science education for young students.

Highlanders Split Doubleheader with Purdue, Six-Run 10th Inning Carries NJIT Past Purdue in Game One
A six-run burst in the tenth inning for NJIT secured a 9-3 victory over Purdue in game one of the doubleheader, and the Boilermakers won the nightcap 9-8 on a walk-off base on balls at The Big League Camp Facility Saturday afternoon. With the split on Saturday, NJIT picked up its second win over a Big Ten opponent (NJIT 8, Penn State 6; March 8, 2018), moving to to 6-3-1 while the Boilermakers', a 38-win 2018 NCAA Regional qualifier, stand at 2-10 on the season.

Women's Tennis Bounces Back With Big Win Over Hofstra
The NJIT women's tennis team picked up its 11th victory of the season after defeating the Hofstra Pride 6-1 Sunday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreation Facility. The win total tied the most victories the Highlanders have produced since 2013-14 when NJIT ended the year with an 11-8 record and an appearance in the America East Championship match.

Researchers at NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) have partnered with RiskVal Financial Solutions, a New York City-based global supplier of Software as a Service for pre-trade analysis and risk management. The objective is to use cutting-edge data science techniques to model fluctuations in the bond market.

NJIT President Testifies in State Hearing for Economic Development
Joel Bloom, president of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), was invited to testify in a joint hearing of the Senate Economic Growth Committee and Assembly Commerce and Economic Development Committee on March 8, 2019. The joint hearing brought educational institutions, industry leaders and policy research organizations to answer questions and discuss solutions to boost economic development in New Jersey.

Centennial Celebrations: Newark College of Engineering Inducts 11 into its Hall of Fame
A poet, a general and a judge, all engineers by training with diverse, illustrious careers to follow, were among the 11 Newark College of Engineering (NCE) graduates recently inducted into the NCE 100, the alumni hall of fame established this year as part of the College’s celebration of its centennial.

NJIT Announces Appointment of New Dean for College of Architecture and Design
After an international search, New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has announced the appointment of Dr. Branko Kolarevic as dean of the College of Architecture and Design, effective July 1, 2019. Kolarevic received his Diploma Engineer of Architecture degree from the University of Belgrade in 1986 and his Master of Design Studies and Doctor of Design degrees from Harvard University in 1989 and 1993, respectively.

4 NJIT Leaders Named to New Jersey Influencers Power List for 2019
ROI-NJ, a publication that reports on New Jersey economic news, released its ROI Influencers Power List for 2019. Featured on the list are Joel S. Bloom, NJIT’s president; Donald Sebastian, president of New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), an NJIT corporation; Judith Sheft, associate vice president technology and enterprise development of NJII; and Tomas Gregorio, NJII’s senior executive director, Healthcare Systems Innovation.

Chemical Engineering Major Is NJIT's Intern of the Year
Daniel Young, a junior studying chemical engineering, has been declared Intern of the Year by Career Development Services (CDS) at NJIT. CDS held its second annual Interns of NJIT contest this past fall and selected Young in January. In addition to the title, he has received a $500 cash prize that will go toward his tuition.

The Data Is In: Ph.D. Student Successfully Presents on Entrepreneurship
It was his first conference presentation and he aced it. Yasser Farha, a doctoral student in Martin Tuchman School of Management’s (MTSM) Ph.D. program in Business Data Science, attended the annual gathering this past January of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), and there received great feedback after speaking about his research developing machine-learning tools to measure the disposition of students toward entrepreneurship.

NJIT ADVANCE: Highlanders Earn First ASUN Tournament Win at Dunk City
The NJIT Highlanders (21-11, 8-8 ASUN) defeated the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (14-18, 9-7 ASUN) on Monday at the Alico Center, 83-78. The win was NJIT's first ASUN Championship win in program history and first road victory at FGCU. The Highlanders also tied their program record for wins with No. 21 set back in 2014-15 (21-12). Senior Diandre Wilson led the team in scoring with 26 points, followed by birthday-boy Zach Cooks with 25 points. Senior Abdul Lewis added 18 points and six rebounds in the effort.

Men's Fencing Captures 2019 MACFA Championship
The NJIT men's fencing team captured the 2019 MACFA Championship highlighted by a first-place finish by Brett Bogert in the men's epee for the second consecutive season, hosted by Drew University Sunday afternoon. NJIT, which finished the regular season with a 21-6 overall mark, the best record in program-history, added to the teams 2019 resume, capturing the 2019 MACFA Championship title, dropping a total of just five bouts all day and, winning 121 out of a possible 126 bouts.
