NJIT Scores Two Late to Win Series Finale, 3-1, at Stetson to Split Doubleheader
Watch Highlights vs. Stetson | Game 2 Watch Highlights vs. Stetson | Game 3 DELAND, FL—NJIT scored a pair of runs late to win the series finale, 3-1, at Stetson, behind a complete game performance from senior Sean Lubreski to the split Sunday's doubleheader while the Hatters took game one, 1-0, at Melching Field in ASUN Conference action.

One For the Record Books: Recapping NJIT's Historic 2018-19 Season
The NJIT Highlanders' record-setting 2018-19 season came to a close on March 28, 2019, in the CIT Quarterfinals. Head Coach Brian Kennedy's team finished in fifth place of the ASUN Conference with a 22-13 (8-8 ASUN) record, the third-best overall record in the conference. Kennedy's overall record in three seasons as NJIT's head coach improves to 47-49 (.490) and 117-105 (.527) in his seven seasons as a member of the Highlanders' coaching staff.

NCE Recognizes Faculty, Staff and Student Excellence
Newark College of Engineering celebrated faculty, staff and student achievements at the first ceremony of the 21st Annual Salute to Engineering Excellence on April 4, 2019 in the Campus Center Atrium. Outstanding alumni also will be honored at a separate ceremony on April 10, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park, New Jersey. What's Hot and Cool in Tech? Come Find Out at NJIT's 7th Annual Innovation Day
NJIT Innovation Day, an invention-packed showcase of cutting-edge, student-led research, design and development across programs and disciplines, will take place Monday, April 8, at the Campus Center. Around 70 student projects – from autonomous lawn care equipment, to lightweight solar arrays for solar vehicles, to a tornado water filtration bottle, to a platform that provides visual feedback on human balance control – will be on display. Broadly, the event will feature inventions that improve lives, novel business ideas, computer games and fundamental scientific research.

NJIT Professor Receives Google Faculty Research Award
Qiang Tang is one of the researchers around the globe receiving this highly competitive award: this year Google received 910 proposals covering 40 countries and more than 320 universities. Tang was recognized for his work in cliptography, an advanced form of cryptography, which preserves the security of cryptographic tools even if they encounter malicious software or hardware implementations containing backdoors.

A Source of Service: Student Volunteers at NJIT
April 7-13 is National Volunteer Week, when volunteers nationwide are acknowledged for their service-oriented contributions. The NJIT community remains engaged in a range of giving-back activities, centrally coordinated by Career Development Services. To help meet its civic and social responsibility goals, the university is a member of Campus Compact, a coalition “focused on teaching, research, and institutional action in service of the public good.”

School of Management Faculty-led Study Abroad Goes to Germany
This past spring break, six undergrads from the MRKT485 course and two graduate students from MGMT699 ventured to Germany for the first Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM) undergraduate faculty-led study-abroad experience. Accompanied by MTSM Senior University Lecturer Melodi Guilbault, they visited both prominent companies and locations of historical and cultural significance, and attended lectures at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) University, a partner institution of NJIT that helped plan the excursion.

NJIT Cited for Its Online Master's in Management Program
OnlineMasters.com, “a trusted source of unbiased college rankings and higher education planning,” has named the graduate management program at NJIT’s Martin Tuchman School of Management a Best Online Master’s in Management Program for 2019. It is ranked No. 18 out of 47 of the best programs identified nationwide, and shares kudos with such respected institutions as Harvard University, New York University and Drexel University.

NJIT Mourns Death of Former Newark Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson
The New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) community mourns the loss of one of its historic alumni, Kenneth A. Gibson, who died March 29. The 1962 graduate of the Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) and recipient of an honorary doctorate from his alma mater in 1977 was the first African-American mayor of Newark. He also was the first African-American to serve as mayor of a major Northeast city.

Highlanders Split Saturday Doubleheader with Jacksonville
NJIT split a doubleheader with Jacksonville Saturday, as the Dolphins took game one 5-2 while the Highlanders won the nightcap, 5-2, behind strong pitching from senior RHP Sean Lubreski and closer RHP Joe Georgini in ASUN Conference action at Somerset Patriots TD Ball Park Saturday. In game one, the Dolphins (18-10, 5-1 ASUN) used four late runs to take the lead in game one and the Highlanders (9-12-1, 2-4 ASUN) scored four runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap to earn the 5-2 victory. Pedaling for Power on a Modified Bike in a Remote Haitian Village
The technology that engineering students Matt Reda and Rudolph Brazdovic installed last year in the remote, hilly community of Milot, Haiti, was simple enough: a modified bicycle with a back wheel that turns a generator, producing 20 watts of electricity. What was less straightforward, they quickly learned, was how to manage it. Unlike devices for individual dwellings, such as water filters, the NJIT Light Cycle is a public service: a cellphone charging station for the approximately 50 people living within a mile of a regional gathering place.

Watch: NJIT Mathematical Sciences Professor Releases Major League Baseball Predictions
Mathematical Sciences Professor and Associate Dean Bruce Bukiet has published his model’s projections of how the standings should look at the end of Major League Baseball’s regular season in 2019. For more than 20 years, Bukiet has applied mathematical models to compute the number of regular season games each Major League Baseball team should win. His mathematically derived projections have consistently compared well with those of so-called experts.

NJIT Joins DIMACS as an Affiliate Partner Institute
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is the newest partner in DIMACS, the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science. DIMACS is a research-oriented consortium of Princeton University, Rutgers University, AT&T Labs – Research, NEC Laboratories America, Nokia Bell Labs and Perspecta Labs. Affiliate members, in addition to NJIT, include Avaya Labs, Columbia University, Georgia Institute of Technology, IBM Research, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Stevens Institute of Technology.
