NJIT Directs the 2018 Academy of the International Council for Small Business in Taipei
The Academy of the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) is an intensive, weeklong entrepreneurship boot camp. Sponsored by ICSB, the world’s oldest academic organization dedicated to entrepreneurship, the Academy guides students through diverse aspects of entrepreneurship, including opportunity discovery, business model validation, digital marketing and sales — all in the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Look Who's Back! Alumni Return to NJIT as Recruiters
The Spring 2018 Career Fair held this past February at NJIT’s new Wellness and Events Center (WEC) was alumna Whitney Randolph’s first time back on campus since she graduated from the university with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering in 2017. The reason for her visit was not to look for a job, but rather to find job candidates, as a recruiter for her employer, Getinge. Randolph is a production engineer at the global medical technology company.

Who's Who? NJIT's Atam Dhawan!
Dr. Atam P. Dhawan, NJIT’s senior vice provost for research, received the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award from Marquis Who's Who, the nearly 120-year-old publisher of biographies, for his leadership in the fields of engineering and higher education. The award recognizes people who have “achieved greatness” in their industry, excelling for at least 20 years.

New Instruments and Funding Expand Views of the Sun at Big Bear
A solar telescope that captures images of the entire disk of the Sun, monitoring eruptions taking place simultaneously in different magnetic fields in both the photosphere and chromosphere, is now installed beside the Goode Solar Telescope (GST) at NJIT’s California-based Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO).

NJIT Management Grad Named Student of the Year
Rashmi Ketha recently earned two new titles: NJIT Master of Science in Management (MSM) graduate and New Jersey Career Center Consortium (NJC3) Student of the Year for 4-Year Technical Institutions. As the former, she would like to apply her foundational knowledge gained at NJIT to pursue further education at Harvard, with an eye toward the C-suite. And as the latter, she received a $250 cash award, which she plans to invest and also purchase a few books that are meaningful to her.

NJIT Undergraduate Applications Jump 12 Percent Over Last Year
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is bucking an undergraduate admissions trend. While many universities are failing to hit recruitment targets and/or reducing their standards for admission due to sharp regional and national declines in the traditional college-aged population, NJIT has seen noteworthy growth this year in both applications and the average SAT score of those applicants.

Opportunities Gained After Options Program: Another Pre-College Success Story
They met in second grade and, with similar family origins and a mutual interest in science, have been friends ever since. Aseel Shehadeh and Tahanee Mustafa, who both have parents raised in Palestine and who partnered in six consecutive New Jersey Science Olympiads hosted at NJIT, have something else in common: They took part in Options for Advanced Academic Achievement, a program of the university’s Center for Pre-College Programs (CPCP).

Women's Basketball Kelly Guarino Participates in NCAA Career in Sports Forum
Rising women's basketball senior Kelly Guarino was one of 200 student-athletes to be selected and participate in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis from May 31-June 3. The Career in Sports Forum provided college athletes with a broader scope of the career tracks available within the sports business, with the primary focus on college athletics. It provided student-athletes interactive experiences with successful individuals in the sports business and a peek into their day-to-day duties and responsibilities.

Author and Artist Michael Benson On Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey", and Fusing Science and Art
In 1964, legendary director Stanley Kubrick met with legendary science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke to embark on one of the most ambitious films ever made — “2001: A Space Odyssey”. In a 141-minute cinematic spectacle that would take four years to produce, the two artists uniquely blended aspects of science and art to create a groundbreaking futuristic mythology that is still studied in film schools and debated by global audiences today.

It's the End of an Era at the Educational Opportunity Program
Tony Howell’s office on the third floor of NJIT’s Campbell Hall is as much a retrospective of the past two decades of the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), of which he has been executive director since 1997, as it is a testament to the devotion of the man himself. Pictures of EOP students, many with Howell by their side, adorn the walls, and trinkets from the program line the window shelf along the back of the room.
