Austin Chen ’26 arrived at NJIT with an interest in architecture, but he leaves with something more defined: a belief that the built environment must be measured not only by its form, but also by its function, performance, and how it responds to people who inhabit it.

The Board of Trustees and President Teik C. Lim jointly announce today that President Lim will retire from NJIT, effective August 3, 2026, to conclude his successful tenure and transition toward a new chapter of professional and personal interests. President Lim has served as NJIT’s ninth president since July 1, 2022, and he shared that his decision to retire from NJIT comes at a natural and positive inflection point for the institution.

Attending New Jersey Institute of Technology set Enzo Suarez '25 on the right track: toward a career in railroads. Suarez graduated magna cum laude — a semester early — with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and multiple departmental honors, including the Freshman and Senior Excellence Awards from the John A. Reif, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. After graduation, he joined Railroad Construction Company (RCC) as a full-time field engineer.

Curiosity, an interest in computers and an affinity for problem-solving brought Adam Mariano '26 to New Jersey Institute of Technology, leading them to a major in computer engineering. But they also found space for their lifelong love of music, performing on the viola with the NJIT String Ensemble. Their academic and extracurricular achievements at NJIT recently earned them the Newark College of Engineering Departmental Outstanding Senior Award for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, presented at a ceremony held on April 16, 2026.
