CEO to NJIT Class of 2024: Be Agents of Change and Build a Future We Can Be Proud Of
Preaching patience, courage and resilience, MZM Construction Co. President and CEO Marjorie Perry urged the Class of 2024 at New Jersey Institute of Technology to become lifelong learners as they apply their imagination to real-world challenges. Perry, an NJIT alumna who serves on its Foundation Board of Directors, called on the undergraduates earning bachelor’s degrees to be “agents of change in our communities” and build a future “that we can all be proud of.”

Senior Success: Kenia Suarez Appreciates All the Opportunities She Received at HCAD from Day One
One summer Kenia Suarez decided to visit NJIT. The Lima, Perú native wanted to find out how she could get accepted into NJIT’s Hillier College of Architecture and Design. Little did she know that after that first visit, her career and dreams would take off. “I went to HCAD, and there were a few professors during summer,” said Suarez. “I was very nervous because I didn't speak much English at the time, and they encouraged me to try it out. One of the professors was John Cays, and he inspired me a lot to just try it, and I did it. When I got accepted, I was over the moon.”

NJIT's Neel Patil, Hoops Fan and Double STEM Major, Will Work at FanDuel
Neel Patil, a new graduate in computer science and applied mathematics, is following his Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brothers like All-Star baseball outfielder Jim Edmonds and broadcaster Rich Eisen into the sports business. Patil will be a software engineer at FanDuel starting in July. It’s a perfect fit for the diehard basketball fan, who said he’s never made money from betting on his favorite NBA team, the Boston Celtics, because he always picks the over — he can’t stand to admit that they might not dominate, even when it’s a fiscally irrational decision.

NJIT's 2024 Master's and Doctoral Class Make Their Mark
New Jersey Institute of Technology served up a full day of fanfare as its advanced degree graduates walked across the stage in the Wellness and Events Center in three commencement ceremonies on May 15. The 2024 class comprises more than 1,400 graduates and reflects the institution’s steady growth and upward trajectory.

A bourgeoning interest in AI that began in high school created a serendipitous fast track to success for Vaisnavi Nemala '24, who came to NJIT as a student in the Ying Wu College of Computing and the Albert Dorman Honors College just in time to join the newly launched B.S. in Data Science in fall 2021.

A Blend of Architecture and Engineering Helps NJIT Scholar Land in Project Management
Following graduation from New Jersey Institute of Technology, Hilsson Angeles will start working at general contracting firm Burns & McDonnell as a construction coordinator. What helped him get there was a tremendous work ethic, which he inherited from his parents, and an interest in both architecture and engineering. Indeed, he’s earning a dual bachelor’s in architecture and construction management technology.

Highlanders Score Five in the Ninth to Take Series from UMass Lowell
The NJIT baseball team broke an 8-8 tie with five runs in the top of the ninth and held off host UMass Lowell in the bottom half of the inning to win 13-10 and take the three-game America East series from the River Hawks. NJIT Names Temple's Jamie Payton to Lead Its College of Computing
New Jersey Institute of Technology has named Jamie Payton, professor and chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University, to lead its Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) as dean beginning July 1, 2024.

Mohammad Arif Hossain - ECE PhD Student of the Month - May 2024
Mohammad Arif Hossain has successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation in Computer Engineering from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). His research focus was on AI-assisted next generation wireless networks, distributed machine learning, cloud and edge computing, 6G and 5G Networks and internet of things (IoT) during his Ph.D. Before joining his Ph.D. program, he served as a faculty in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of East Delta University, Bangladesh from 2016 to 2018.

Senior Success: Interior Designer Martina Hanna Shares Her Highlights at HCAD and NJIT
When Martina Hanna ’24 started her studies at NJIT, she was a civil engineering major. But when the pandemic hit, she took a different route, one that was meant to be. “I was just too scared to do it because I didn't have a portfolio,” Hanna explained the process of switching her major to interior design. “But during COVID I had so much free time that I actually developed one and really looked into it more. I got in, they let me change my majors. I was like, ‘amazing!’” As she looks back to those days, she notes how the classes weren’t feeding her creative side.

NJIT's Honors College Scholars Showcase Research in Honors Interdisciplinary Research Forum
Close to 100 Albert Dorman Honors College scholars from Introduction to Research Writing and Introduction to Research Methods presented their semester's research, with topics ranging from TikTok influencer marketing to an analysis of healthcare in the United States.
