NJIT Appoints Steve Saperstein '84 Chair of Foundation Board of Directors
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), an R1 polytechnic university, is pleased to announce that alumnus Steven B. Saperstein ’84 will become the chair of the NJIT Foundation Board of Directors on January 1, 2025. The Foundation Board is responsible for stewarding the university’s endowment and supporting fundraising efforts. Also announced is the appointment of Michael Pages to chair of the Joint Investment Committee (JIC) of the NJIT Foundation. The JIC is entrusted by the Board of Trustees and the Foundation Board of Directors to manage NJIT’s pooled endowment funds of approximately $185 million.
Saperstein, formerly the COO of PGIM Fixed Income, has a remarkable track record of leadership. While at PGIM, the firm’s assets under management increased from $150 billion to $850 billion. Saperstein also spearheaded new investment platforms and established operations in key global cities. His governance experience includes chairing oversight committees for various regulated entities.
A long-time supporter of NJIT, Saperstein has served on the boards of visitors for two colleges and led the NJIT Alumni Association as president. In 2012, he was awarded the Edward F. Weston Medal for his outstanding personal, professional and civic achievement and commitment to NJIT. Looking ahead, Saperstein aims to enhance partnership with NJIT’s corporate and industry partners by leveraging the Office of Corporate Engagement. Working closely with the Office of Development & Alumni Relations and President Teik C. Lim, he plans to further enhance the Foundation Board of Directors, ensuring it supports the university’s strong growth and new strategic plan.
Saperstein expressed his gratitude for the immediate past board chair, Robert Medina, who laid a strong foundation for future success. Medina will continue to serve NJIT in key roles, including as Chair Emeritus of the Hispanic and Latinx Leadership Council.
As first-generation college graduates, both Saperstein and Pages share a passion for education, mentorship and worked in close partnership on the JIC. Pages is a proud graduate of the first class of the NJ SEEDS program which afforded him the opportunity to attend the Dwight Englewood School on scholarship. He later attended Amherst College and then Columbia Business School.
Pages is an executive director at J.P. Morgan and works alongside a team of professionals who share responsibility for advising institutional tax-exempt organizations and select family offices. He has deep expertise in the outsourced chief investment officer model and is a team lead.
Pages also feels a deep connection to Newark, having served the city’s residents previously as a middle school science teacher. “As the son of immigrants from Ecuador who had no formal education, I understand the transformative power of the right school — something NJIT exemplifies,” said Pages. “I am humbled to have been asked to serve as chair of the Joint Investment Committee. Steve is an incredible mentor and leader. I am proud to build upon his success.”
