NJIT To Host Community COVID-19 Vaccination Center
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is pleased to announce our partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the New Jersey Office of the Governor, the Department of Defense (DoD), the New Jersey State Police (NJSP), the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management (OEM), and other agencies to open a new COVID Community Vaccination Center on the NJIT campus. The Naimoli Center on NJIT's campus in Newark, N.J. will serve as the hub for vaccine activity at the new COVID Community Vaccination Center.

Noise has an outsized impact on quality of life for urban residents, but it can be hard to monitor and regulate. Cities, which have limited resources to enforce noise codes, often chase transient sources that disappear before inspectors arrive hours or days later.

Aaron Park Named America East Rookie of the Week
Aaron Park, a freshman on the NJIT baseball team, was named America East Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced Monday. Park, who was making his collegiate debut, came out of the bullpen in the fourth and final game of this weekend's series against Albany and struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings.

Women's Volleyball Completes Season Sweep of Binghamton
The NJIT women's volleyball team defeated visiting Binghamton for the second straight day, taking down the Bearcats in four sets in America East action on Monday evening at the Wellness and Events Center.

How Creativity, Persistence and Skills Will Get You Just About Anywhere
Renee Collins, B.S. Industrial Design ‘18 went to high school at Sussex Tech and obtained her cosmetology license there. When her best friend was admitted to NJIT, Collins came along for the campus tour and thought, “This is pretty nice,” and applied. “I think I had an idea of what Industrial Design was but I didn’t really understand. I wanted to design products for the beauty industry instead of being a hairdresser. It was a lot larger than my conception of it.

Hillier College Welcomes New Board Members to Advise on Direction
Hillier College welcomed new advisory board members Kim Vierheilig ’99 ’00, Robert "Bob" Fritz ’88, and Jordan Hillier Adams. Each brings new perspectives to the vision and leadership that the advisory board has provided to the college since its inception.

NJIT Professor Becomes Editor in Chief for Society of Architectural Historians Archipedia
The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) has named Gabrielle Esperdy, Professor in the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, to the role of editor in chief for the Buildings of the United States (BUS) book series and SAH Archipedia. BUS was inspired by the famous Pevsner Guides to Buildings of England.

The Hillier College of Architecture and Design History Project
This story was submitted by Maya Gervits. As we approach the 50th anniversary of the New Jersey School of Architecture at the J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design, working on preserving the narratives of the college’s history seems both timely and necessary. Such a study can promote a better understanding of how the institution has evolved and help explore its relation within the university, local community, and other institutions concerned with architects’ and designers' education.

Architecture Alumna's Group Enables Women to 'Be Heard, Be Seen, Be Known'
Joann Lui '11, an architect in Lawrenceville, N.J., is only 32 but may have already helped more people thrive in her field than most professionals could mentor in a whole career. In 2018 Lui founded a Facebook group called Women Architects Collective, which now has more than 3,000 members who join from around the world, all seeking a safe space to discuss industry issues such as harassment, inclusion, job searching, technical matters and more.

NJIT's College of Science and Liberal Arts Attracts Record Freshman Applicants
All-time highs in freshman applicants are being reported this year at NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts (CSLA), according to the university’s latest admissions report for fall 2021. NJIT’s Office of Admissions says CSLA’s freshman applicants this year (approximately 2,500) have risen more than 15% from 2020 and 25% compared to pre-pandemic totals in 2019 (1,850).

Passing of Bernard Koplik, Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Bernard Koplik, a longtime chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (MIE) at a pivotal time in the university’s history and a beloved mentor and friend to both faculty and students, passed away on March 14. Koplik, who served on NJIT’s faculty for 37 years, focused on solid mechanics, and in particular, the behavior of a variety of materials, from steel to concrete, under stress and strain. He played a key role in NJIT’s transition from a primarily teaching-focused institution to an ambitious research university.

NJIT Fields Record Number of Applications from First-Year Students for 2nd Straight Year
For the second straight year, New Jersey Institute of Technology has broken its record for first-year student applications with a total of more than 11,250. All five of NJIT’s academic colleges experienced increases, led by a 21% jump from the Martin Tuchman School of Management, which eclipsed 1,000 applicants for the first time.
