2 Leaders at NJIT Make NJBIZ's 2021 Education Power 50
Two leaders at New Jersey Institute of Technology made NJBIZ’s list of the 2021 Education Power 50: President Joel S. Bloom and Simon Nynens, CEO of NJIT’s New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII).
The annual list recognizes the most impactful and influential educational leaders in New Jersey.
In selecting Bloom, NJBIZ noted the university’s drive to “empower underrepresented, first-generation, lower-income, typically minority New Jerseyans — especially in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math,” which “dovetails nicely with state and local efforts to improve the state’s workforce and strengthen the economy.”
NJBIZ added that “with a pandemic and ensuing recession that’s been shown to take a massive toll on communities of color — in infections, fatalities and economic hardships — using higher education as a means to level the playing field for people of color and disadvantaged residents has become a far greater priority.”
NJBIZ also cited Bloom’s leadership in renovating NJIT’s campus as part of the larger revitalization efforts in the university’s home city of Newark.
Nynens was recognized as a “natural leader” who previously led Wayside Technology Group through a period of exponential growth.
NJII is an NJIT corporation that helps turn ideas into workable solutions in the areas of biopharma, data and advanced technology, defense and homeland security, entrepreneurship, healthcare delivery and human capital.
