NJIT Grads Land Jobs from Internships They Found at Career Fair
New Jersey Institute of Technology’s next career fair will connect students with more than 165 employers offering some 1,000 jobs, internships and cooperative educational experiences.
Participating employers include GE, Verizon, Moody’s, Merck, UPS, New York Life, the FBI and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. You’ll find the full list here.
As with last fall, this fair will take place online via the Handshake networking platform, where students can post resumes, scout opportunities and sign up for one-on-one interviews and group informational sessions. The interviews last 10 minutes and the informational sessions, a half-hour.
This fall’s fair – which is sponsored by Case Medical, Crestron Electronics, FDM Group, GAF, IntegriChain, Lutron Electronics, Tata Consultancy Services, Turner Construction and Valcor Engineering – will take place Sept. 24, between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Advanced registration is required and can be accessed here.
NJIT’s Career Development Services manages the fairs and other networking events, which are designed to introduce students to learning experiences outside of the classroom. Often internships or co-ops give rise to job opportunities after graduation. Case in point: Divya Chandana ’21, a data science major who interned at Case Medical in early 2021 and now works there full-time, and Christopher Herring ’21, an information technology major whose spring ’21 internship at UPS morphed into a job after graduation. Both found their internships through a career fair. We reached out to see how they’re doing.

Data scientist and software developer
Case Medical
What do you love about your job?
Showing the data in a pictorial representation such as graphs, charts, et cetera. So, when Case Medical allowed me to implement what I have learned as a data science student to real-world problems, it was like a dream come true. I got to work with 20 years’ worth of data and predict sales, inventory, product recommendations for the users and seasonality trends for the products. I enjoyed solving major issues using a statistical and analytical approach and was passionate about incorporating the technology I learned from NJIT. I am very fortunate I was able to get this opportunity.
How did your internship open the door to this position?
As an intern, I balanced my workload from Case Medical and school. I communicated with new team members on how things worked in the office. By doing so, I was able to get a good grasp of how the data came in and what I should prioritize when. I also communicated with cross-team members to understand how my data science skills could be utilized in their day-to-day activity. I worked hard and gave my best as an intern to secure this full-time position.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
As a senior data scientist working with a large amount of data, solving problems at larger scales. I’d like to be in a position where I can have a positive impact, having expertise in my field as well as with the company. I picture myself in a leadership role, contributing more to the growth of the organization. I also see growth in my skills and capabilities.
