NJIT Students Can Now Get Professional Headshots via a Self-Serve Kiosk
New Jersey Institute of Technology is introducing a new service for students seeking jobs, internships and cooperative education experiences: a self-serve kiosk that takes professional headshots.
The kiosk, known as Popcam, enables students to take multiple images in less than a minute before picking their favorite. Then they can customize the background and get the final image online.
Popcam is the latest new offering from NJIT’s Career Development Services, following an early entry to career fairs known as Fast Pass in 2023 and the Handshake platform for posting resumes and finding potential employers in 2018.
Easy to use
CDS will unveil the kiosk at its next resume day on Feb. 12 and the spring semester career fair on Feb. 18. It will also be available at CDS’s office in Fenster Hall by appointment. The goal is to deliver high-quality headshots quickly so students can post them on LinkedIn, Handshake or any platform that appeals to employers.
“We chose to partner with Popcam based on the ease of use, high quality of the photos and the portability of the technology,” said Patrick Young, interim executive director of CDS. “We can easily offer professional headshots at planned and on-demand events, including career fairs, in our career center and anywhere across campus.”
Previously, CDS had a photographer at its professional development events but it took time to process headshots and email them to students afterward. The new approach is faster and more customizable, with more than 20 background options.
“We wanted professional headshots to be more direct,” explained Carolina Barba Granda, events coordinator at CDS. “Our students and staff value the self-service, instant results and free retakes.”
The introduction
Popcam will debut at resume day on the 12th, where more than 20 employers will critique printed student resumes. That will take place in the gallery on the second floor of the Campus Center. You can sign up via Handshake at https://njit.joinhandshake.com/events/1688608/share_preview.
At the career fair on the 18th, Popcam will be stationed in a conference room on the first floor of the Joel and Diane Bloom Wellness and Events Center — one of two venues for the fair; the other is the Naimoli Tennis Center.
This semester’s fair, sponsored by JRCRUZ, KIPP New Jersey, Allan Briteway and Haley & Aldrich, features some 200 employers offering more than 1,000 internships, co-ops and jobs.
