Chemical Engineering Grad at NJIT Scores a Unique Job Opportunity at Merck
Samantha Swider ’21, fresh from the experience of earning a bachelor’s in chemical engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology — which included three cooperative education roles, co-founding NJIT Green and running track, all as a member of Albert Dorman Honors College — is off to Merck, where she’ll work as an operations specialist. The Brick, N.J. native feels exceedingly well prepared, given some shrewd advice her advisor offered all the way back in year one.

3 Full Years at NJIT: Business Grad Studied, Worked in Lab, Managed Investments, Fenced
In just three years, Marina Arrese ’21 earned a bachelor’s in business administration at New Jersey Institute of Technology, even while fencing, serving as co-president of the NJIT Investment Fund, working at the campus Financial Analysis Lab and serving on the Dean’s Executive Student Leadership Council. The Madrid native reflected on the chock-full experience and shared her future plans (hint: she’s staying in Newark) in an interview with NJIT.

NJIT Graduates 3,000 Who Excelled Despite COVID-19 Pandemic
New Jersey Institute of Technology formally graduated more than 3,000 students today, in a hybrid in-person and virtual ceremony due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Kimberly Bryant, founder and CEO of Black Girls Code, delivered this year’s commencement address. Black Girls Code is a non-profit organization teaching computer science skills to Black females ages 7-11 and emphasizing entrepreneurship. Bryant studied electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University.

NJIT Sweeps DH from Binghamton to Inch Closer to America East Playoff Spot
America East newcomer NJIT moved closer to a berth in the conference playoffs on Sunday, sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Binghamton at Jim Hynes Stadium. NJIT took game one 6-2, before completing the sweep with an 11-4 victory in game two.

Two Enterprising Undergraduate Researchers Win Goldwater Scholarships
Two biology students involved in high-level research on novel therapies for COVID-19 and other diseases were named 2021 Goldwater scholars this year by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. The scholarship is recognized as the country’s most prestigious for STEM undergraduates pursuing research careers.

Senior Success: NJIT's Jaime Felice Is Poised to Become a U.S. Air Force Pilot
After four years at NJIT, career prospects for Jaime Felice ’21 are about to take off, and the sky is the limit — literally. Felice has definitely taken a path less traveled at NJIT, joining four other cadets this year in the graduating class of NJIT’s decorated Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 490. In just a few weeks after Commencement, she’ll be commissioning as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, and has been selected to become a pilot.

Student Volunteers Put a Smile on a Vaccination Super Center
Engineering professor Chang Yaramothu ’13H, ’14, ’17, Abigail Varughese ’22, Rita Vought ’21 and FEMA’s Marc K. Raoul ’09 are some of the NJIT students, past and present, contributing engineering, emergency management and healthcare skills to the massive effort. When a frail, elderly woman refused help at the FEMA-run vaccination site in NJIT’s Naimoli Center, Rita Vought ’21 knew just what to do. She sidled over, struck up a conversation, and subtly navigated her through the process, from registration to departure.

NJIT Athletics Holds 2020-21 Athletics Awards Ceremony
NJIT Athletics recognized the contributions and accomplishments of over 350 student-athletes on its 19 varsity teams for the 2020-21 season at the Annual Athletics Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 on campus inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center. The Athletic Sports Awards Ceremony was a fun-filled afternoon designed to honor the NJIT Highlander teams for all of their hard work on and off the field during the 2020-21 athletic year.

Franzoni's Blast Leads NJIT to Game Two Victory at Stony Brook
Senior captain Paul Franzoni's eighth inning home run, a two-run blast over the left field wall, helped push the NJIT baseball team past host Stony Brook in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Joe Nathan Field. The Highlanders held on to win game two 7-5, after falling short 4-3 in the seven-inning opener on Sunday.
