$1.4 Million Federal Grant Launches NJIT Forensic Science Initiative
Federal funding supporting New Jersey’s “Opportunity Meets Innovation” higher education challenge will introduce Newark high school students to forensic science as a pathway to college – and a STEM education – under a new program from New Jersey Institute of Technology.

From Congo to Columbia, Engineering Grad Perseveres for Her PhD
Daniela Bushiri, NJIT Class of 2021, has not been in the U.S. for long – about five years. In that time, she graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in chemical engineering, a minor in Applied Mathematics, and is now taking her talents to Columbia University in the fall where she will research alternative energy in pursuit of a Ph.D. She is an Albert Dorman Scholar, a McNair Scholar, a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, and a member of the National Society of Black Engineers.

School of Management Cassetta Scholarship Reaches $100K
Raymond Cassetta, an alumnus of the class of 1970 and benefactor of Martin Tuchman School of Management's Financial Analytics Laboratory, recently extended the scholarship in his name to the $100,000 mark.

Marina Arrese Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Recognition
NJIT junior women's fencer Marina Arrese has been named as a First-Team selection on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 Women's At Large Team the organization announced on Thursday. Arrese, from Madrid, Spain, was named to the Dean's List for six semesters and carried a 4.0 grade point average, graduating in three years with a business degree.

STEM Innovation Academy Graduates Coming to NJIT
The inaugural class at the STEM Innovation Academy of the Oranges held a graduation ceremony on June 25 at the NJIT Campus Center, capping four years of cooperation between Orange Public Schools and NJIT's Center for Pre-College Programs (CPCP) that aims to create a pathway to college for students historically underrepresented in technical majors and careers. Every student in the class of 2021 has been accepted to college, including five who will start at NJIT in the fall.

Rene White Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team
NJIT senior forward Rene White has been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA NCAA Division I Academic All-America first team the CoSIDA Academic All-America program announced on Monday. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

NJIT Researchers Evaluate Online Harassment of Marginalized Live-Streamers
Developers of live-streaming software could help block online harassment of women and LGBTQ people, based on new research from NJIT's informatics department where students and faculty studied the common types of harassment and interviewed 25 streamers to understand coping strategies.

Graduate Certificates Enable Easy Transition into Computing M.S. Programs
With computing playing an ever-increasing role in how companies operate, and the high demand for skilled computing professionals, people with no previous college or work experience in computing are applying to Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) to pursue graduate degree in one of the college’s M.S. programs. Thanks to its several graduate certificate programs, YWCC students new to academic coursework in computing are able to acquire the core skills and experience that they will need to be successful in their chosen M.S. degree program.

Men's Swimming and Diving Honored by CSCAA as Scholar All-America Team
The NJIT men's swimming and diving program was once again honored by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) as one of the 426 overall institutions and 110 Division I men's programs to earn Scholar All-America team honors for the spring semester.

Entrepreneur Lands Job at Venture For America, Defers Med School
Parth Agrawal, a 2021 biomedical engineering graduate and Albert Dorman Honors scholar, was accepted to the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. But he’s not going – right away, at least. He deferred admission for a two-year fellowship with Venture For America, a nonprofit organization that trains recent college graduates to work in startups in cities across the country.

COVID-19 Community Vaccination Center at NJIT: 221,450 Inoculations in 90 Days
As the federally supported COVID-19 Community Vaccination Center at New Jersey Institute of Technology entered its final days, leaders of the operation that ultimately delivered 221,450 vaccinations in 90 days recognized each other for their cooperation, professionalism and humanity. Officials from FEMA, the National Guard, U.S. Air Force, N.J. Department of Health, N.J. State Police and NJIT spoke during a ceremony inside the center, even while Air Force personnel continued to deliver vaccinations.

NJ Brownfields Assistance Center @NJIT: Invaluable Know-How with an Action Plan
The NJ Brownfields Assistance Center serves New Jersey communities by providing free training and guidance on how to get brownfields cleaned up for productive redevelopment. Their work includes assistance to community groups developing a strategy for moving local brownfields toward redevelopment, identification of funding and financing sources as well as guidance through the environmental regulatory process.

Expertise for High Potential Students and Buildings with Good Bones
A new program called “Blueprint” will launch this fall, with the aim to provide career readiness to selective students in the architecture and interior design programs at Hillier College and Kean University. Advisory board member Brenda Nyce -Taylor, who is managing director and principal in Gensler’s Morristown office, in partnership with colleagues at Gensler and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Interim Director of the School of Art + Design, John Cays, have come up with a plan to work with college students on career preparation.

Tesla Engineer & NJIT Alum Talks Product Design, Roofing, & His Cybertruck
Tommy Rodrigues ‘16 came to Hillier College’s industrial design program while employed in the roofing industry. Now he is working at Tesla, based in California, in the role of staff mechanical design engineer. He is part of a team of engineers developing Tesla Solar Roof. He took some time out to share his experience and the value of an industrial design education. AS: You were already working in the roofing industry when you came to NJIT, did you consider other program options such as architecture or engineering and how did industrial design win out?

Jake Rappaport, Julio Marcano Named to ABCA All-Region Teams
The NJIT baseball program added to its historic, record-breaking season on Wednesday when seniors Jake Rappaport and Julio Marcano were named the program's first ABCA All-Region honorees since the Highlanders moved to Division I prior to the 2007 season.

NJIT Men's and Women's Tennis Join Southland Conference
New Jersey Institute of Technology has accepted an invitation from the Southland Conference and will join the NCAA Division I league as an associate member in the sports of men's and women's tennis, effective for the 2021-22 academic year. "We are very happy to welcome NJIT tennis to the Southland, and we look forward to providing the Highlanders' men's and women's teams with an outstanding NCAA postseason experience," Southland Commissioner Tom Burnett said.
