NJIT Launches New Career-Prep Bootcamps in UI/UX Design, Full-Stack Development and Data Science
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is extending its partnership with HackerU to launch three additional career-prep bootcamps in UI/UX Design, Full-Stack Development, and Data Science and Analytics. These accelerated, non-credit training programs are designed to meet the needs of working professionals, offering flexible weekend and evening course schedules.

NJIT@JerseyCity Adds Two M.S. Degrees for Business Information Systems
Ying Wu College of Computing at its NJIT @JerseyCity location will offer new master's degrees in information systems and business information systems this fall, to meet demand from local technology professionals for graduate-level education. The new degrees will bring the number of master’s programs offered at NJIT @JerseyCity to five. The location also offers five graduate certificate programs.

There’s a growing student-podcasting community for aspiring broadcasting personalities at NJIT thanks in part to a new podcasting production course launched this past spring by NJIT Communications and Media Program Director Christopher Funkhouser. Ryan Fischer Named to NCAA Fayetteville All-Region Team
NJIT baseball sophomore Ryan Fischer was named to the NCAA Fayetteville All-Regional Team, it was announced late Monday evening at the conclusion of the four-day event. Fischer helped lead the Highlanders to their first-ever NCAA Tournament win on Saturday, tossing seven innings while allowing just one run as NJIT held off CAA Champion Northeastern 3-2 at Baum-Walker Stadium.

Officials Break Ground for Warren Street Residence Hall to Open in Fall 2022
NJIT executives officially broke ground yesterday for the new residence hall on Warren Street, scheduled to open in the fall 2022 semester at the site of a former Newark elementary school. Amenities will include private kitchens, bicycle storage, a parking garage, creative space, indoor and outdoor cafes, game room and a grass courtyard. It will be constructed with a focus on environmentally-friendly methods and materials.

Design Professor Embraces AI to Quantify Accessibility of Buildings
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but walkability could be evaluated by algorithms, according to new research from an unconventional professor in NJIT's Hillier College of Architecture and Design. "Most people assume that architects have some tool to visualize or analyze how people will use the building. It's not true, they don't," explained Assistant Professor Mathew Schwartz.

Next-Gen Body Cams Part of $85K Public Safety Grant
Public safety officers at NJIT will soon receive the next generation of body cams, all paid by a $85K grant from the state. The university purchased its first batch in 2016, then again in 2019. Now, the state is picking up the tab. The department will also migrate data storage to an off-site server for faster and more convenient access to body cam footage. Meanwhile, department vehicles, already outfitted with traffic-oriented cameras on top, will be retrofitted with interior cameras that will capture a 360-degree view.

The date is May 11, 2004. The TV sitcom Friends just aired the finale of its 10th and final season, Usher’s hit single "Yeah!" is giving way to Maroon 5’s “This Love” atop the Billboard Top 100 and Massachusetts is about to become the first U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage. But lurking under the ground, a seismic event in the insect world was also happening.

Rene White Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Recognition
NJIT senior forward Rene White has been named as a First-Team selection on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 2 Men's Soccer Team the organization announced on Thursday. White, named to the Dean's List for seven semesters, graduated in Fall '20 Cum Laude with a BS in Business Concentration in Financial Technology, boasting a 3.668 GPA. He is currently in the MS Business program.

Space is Open For Business at NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management
The next Elon Musk might come from Martin Tuchman School of Management, where Assistant Professor Raja Roy will teach the business of outer space in his Entrepreneurship 485 Special Topics course this fall. Roy said the class, "Moon, Mars and Beyond: Space is Open For Business," will introduce students to stellar commercialization opportunities that could include topics such as rocketry, satellites, material science, healthcare, energy, law, the Moon, Mars, tourism, defense and more.

Highlander Baseball Makes History with First-Ever NCAA Tournament Win
The NJIT baseball team made more history on Saturday afternoon, earning the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament win in school history in any sport (since moving Division I in 2007) with a 3-2 victory over Northeastern in the Fayetteville Regional at Baum-Walker Stadium hosted by Arkansas. With the win, NJIT tied the program record for total wins with (27), which dates back to 2006 when the Highlanders finished 27-17 and crowned ECAC Champs in the final season of Division II competition.
