Rene White Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team
NJIT senior forward Rene White has been named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA NCAA Division I Academic All-America first team the CoSIDA Academic All-America program announced on Monday. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
White, who was named to the Dean's List in seven semesters, graduated in Fall 2020 Cum Laude with a BS in Business Concentration in Financial Technology, boasting a 3.668 GPA. He is currently in the MS Business program.
The Highlanders 6-foot forward was selected to the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 first team, United Soccer Coaches (USC) Scholar All-Region team, America East first-team and America East All-Academic team.
He appeared in five matches this season, starting three while posting four goals for eight points.
His four goals and eight points ranked fourth in the America East. He scored a pair of goals in the Highlanders 4-2 victory over Binghamton on March 23.
For his career, White is the NJIT Division I career leader in goals (38) and points (82) and is the NCAA Division I active career leader in goals and ranks second in points.
NJIT women's volleyball alumnae Sabrina Baby '09 became the first Highlander student-athlete in any sport at the Division I level selected to the CoSIDA All-District team in 2009 and went on to receive Academic All-America laurels.
To qualify for the Academic All-America team, nominees must have completed their sophomore year – both academically AND athletically – during the 2020-21 academic year in order to be nominated. Nominees must hold at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average or better throughout their career and have started more than 50 percent of all games during the season of nomination and be an elite player as supported by playing honors and/or contributions to their team. Academic All-America honorees must also have first been selected as First-team Academic All-District honorees
