Two Law, Technology and Culture Majors Win Gilman Scholarships to Study in South Korea
Two NJIT undergraduates won the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad in South Korea. Kiaja Jones ‘23 and Destiny Adeleye ‘23, both from Newark, shared their experiences on the process that led them to pursue a Gilman Scholarship and how this award will shape their future careers.

Mobile Mapping Surveyor Brings Advanced Technologies to the Classroom
Associate professor at NJIT’s School of Applied Engineering and Technology, Laramie Potts, works to ensure his students in the Surveying Engineering Technology program have the opportunity to experience the technological instruments the career has to offer. With the creation of a home-brew mobile autonomous surveyor vehicle, Potts wants to make the students’ experience more complete.

NJIT students have found excellent work in co-ops and internships this summer. It is a great way to gain real-world experience in their field of study, and to network with professionals in their chosen field. And, of course, the added benefit of earning money to help pay for tuition and other expenses.

Newark's Shabazz H.S. Makerspace Gets Assist from Highlanders
When the staff at Malcolm X Shabazz High School decided to build a makerspace, which is a first for a Newark public school, they turned to New Jersey Institute of Technology for advice and training. The school's science department chairman, Jackly Nazaire, would like to see engineers, mathematicians, programmers and scientists join the ranks of the school's notable alumni — such as singer Gloria Gaynor, singer Cissy Houston whose daughter was superstar Whitney Houston, former New York mayor Ed Koch and Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus.

Entire Computing Capstone Project Team Hired by Corporate Sponsor
Many Capstone projects, proposed by a company and performed by a team of students as a senior-year course requirement in the Ying Wu College of Computing, are successful enough to be developed further by the sponsoring company. On occasion, a student or two will be fortunate enough to receive an employment offer from the company as a result of their good work. It is far less common, however, for an entire Capstone team, let alone two entire Capstone teams of the same semester and sponsor, to be hired – and made full partners in the company.

NJIT Honors Scholar Pursues PhD in Bioengineering at UMD
Next up for NJIT biomedical engineering graduate Amal Shabazz: the Ph.D. program in bioengineering at the University of Maryland. But first, the Albert Dorman Honors Scholar has a 10-week summer internship at Pfizer in Andover, Mass. Her four years in University Heights were filled with helpful mentors, key internships and welcoming peer groups that collectively helped opened the door to graduate school. Browser Bug Exposes User Data in Top Websites, NJIT Researchers Find
An unpatched security bug in most web browsers allows hackers to monitor specific site visitors and leave scarce evidence of a digital trail, researchers with New Jersey Institute of Technology revealed. The bug can be exploited with well-crafted code that can, for example, wait for a targeted person to view an embarrassing website, record data about their clicks and share that data with those who wish to use it against the visitor.

Ayushi Sangoi, 23, a Newark, N.J., resident and researcher at New Jersey Institute of Technology has been named one of 2022’s MLH Top 50 – a list compiled each year by Major League Hacking (MLH) of the organization’s most inspiring community members. The recipients are recognized for their exceptional contributions to the tech ecosystem and STEM education.

Guanxiong Liu - ECE PhD Student of the Month - June 2022
Guanxiong Liu is a Ph.D. candidate in the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). He works under the advisory of Professor Abdallah Khreishah in the area of machine learning security which covers adversarial machine learning, neural network Trojan attack & defense, and federated learning security.

Highlanders Place Fifth in America East Walter Harrison Academic Cup
NJIT placed fifth in the 2021-22 Walter Harrison Academic Cup standings with an institutional grade point average (GPA) of 3.36, as announced by the America East Conference on Wednesday, June 29. The Highlanders 3.36 GPA marks the 27th consecutive semester that NJIT student-athletes achieved a cumulative GPA over a 3.0. America East Highlights Include:

Martin Tuchman School of Management Names Four Endowed Chairs
Four new endowed chairs were appointed in NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management this summer. The titles went to existing professors known for their experience and success at the business college: Cesar Bandera, Leir Chair in Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Management; Yi Chen, Tuchman' 62 Chair; Junmin Shi, Leir Chair in Business, Technology and Society; and Dantong Yu, Hurlburt Chair.

Merck and NJIT's New Jersey Innovation Institute Partner on Health Care Startup Development
Merck, known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, today announced the launch of the Merck Digital Sciences Studio (MDSS) to enable the generation of innovative technologies for drug discovery and development. MDSS will support early-stage biomedical startups with direct investment, access to powerful Azure Cloud computing and opportunities to pilot their technologies in collaboration with discovery and clinical scientists at Merck. Starting today, Merck welcomes applications for 12 spots for the first MDSS cohort.

Newark High School Students Learn About Robotics and Life From NJIT Peers
Robotics club students at New Jersey Institute of Technology are mentoring their peers in robotics clubs at local high schools, striving to teach younger minds that hands-on experimentation and teamwork can take you anywhere. Umair Khan, president of the NJIT group, said his team members are working with students in Newark's Barringer High School, Malcolm X Shabazz High School, Science Park High School, School of Global Studies and Tech High School, along with Paterson's International High School.
