NJIT's 2022 Homecoming Unites Everything that Makes University Great
The 2022 Homecoming festivities at New Jersey Institute of Technology welcomed students, parents and alumni to an event-packed weekend that featured music, food, culture and plenty of Highlander spirit. Homecoming kicked off Oct. 6 with a concert by Kenny Beats at the Wellness and Events Center. On Saturday Oct.8, the festivities included a BBQ and beer garden, carnival, a magic show by Mark Zacharia, a Hispanic Heritage Celebration that included a mariachi performance and closed with the men’s soccer team hosting New Hampshire.

Murray Turoff: A Pioneer of Instant Messaging
Long before social networks, instant messengers, web forums, Internet Relay Chat, AOL, Compuserve, and dial-up bulletin board systems, there was EIES – Electronic Information Exchange System, pronounced like the word eyes. Developed by Distinguished Professor Emeritus Murray Turoff back in 1976, EIES is considered among the first computer-mediated, multimachine communications and conferencing systems, and a precursor to the widespread interactive communication features available today.

The National Academy of Engineering (NAE) has bestowed on NJIT alumna General (retired) Ellen M. Pawlikowski the 2022 Arthur M. Bueche Award. Pawlikowski joins distinguished professor Louis Lanzerotti as the second Highlander to receive the award.

'Teik Talks' - Maple Hall
Join NJIT President Teik C. Lim as he gets a first-hand look at NJIT's newest residence building, Maple Hall. Maple Hall, the new apartment-style residential building at NJIT, officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 29. The building has extensive amenities such as a well-equipped outdoor terrace, a videogame room, sustainable construction, numerous single rooms, kitchens with modern appliances, Manhattan skyline views and its own parking garage.

S&P Global Ratings Raises Financial Outlook on NJIT
S&P Global Ratings has raised its financial outlook on New Jersey Institute of Technology, based on a “firmer enrollment trend and expectations of improved financial operating performance,” the rating agency said. NJIT’s outlook is now “stable,” while the university’s long-term credit rating remains “A.”

An Engineer and a Mathematician Win Honors at NJIT's 2022 Excellence in Research Ceremony
Engineer Michel Boufadel, one of the world’s chief experts on oil spills and a frequent consultant on cleanups, is the winner of the Board of Overseers Excellence in Research Award for 2022. Denis Blackmore, a mathematician who specialized in measuring and modeling changes in a range of dynamic systems, was honored posthumously with the Board of Overseers Excellence in Research Lifetime Achievement Award.

NJIT Alum Denise Richard Joins First Peace Corps Volunteers Overseas Since COVID
Transitioning back from a world of COVID lockdowns and restrictions has meant something different for everyone, but for Denise Richard and the Peace Corps, a “return to normal” will soon mean resuming humanitarian efforts more than 7,000 miles away in Africa. This month, the NJIT alumna is joining the first wave of Peace Corps volunteers to restart overseas service since the agency’s global evacuation at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management offers one of the best MBA programs in the nation, according to a new ranking from Fortune. Earning a master's of business administration degree at New Jersey Institute of Technology differs from the pack because of the university-wise focus on research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

As part of the 2022 Homecoming festivities, New Jersey Institute of Technology held a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Lenda and Vince Naimoli ’62, ’09 HON Turf Room. Lenda Naimoli and her sister Glenda Young, President Teik C. Lim and First Lady Gina Lim, President Emeritus Joel S. Bloom and First Lady Emerita Diane Bloom, Athletic Director Leonard Kaplan, Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations Ken Alexo, athletics staff and student-athletes were among the attendees.

Shuai Zhang - ECE PhD Student of the Month - October 2022
Shuai Zhang received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NJIT in 2022. Currently, he is working as a Postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. His research interests include 6G wireless communications, Internet of Things, Mobile Edge Computing, optical networks, UAV-assisted communications and artificial intelligence in wireless networks.

NJIT Esports Club Stands Out at Innovation and Technology Festival
At a busy, waterfront innovation festival filled with tech companies, startups, entrepreneurs and more, the NJIT Esports club had some of the biggest draws of the day. The Propelify Innovation Festival, dubbed the “SXSW of the northeast,” brought together thousands of tech-enthusiasts to Hoboken’s Maxwell Place Park for a day of mixing, mingling, and — for the NJIT esports club — light gaming.

New Jersey Institute of Technology students are forming a pair of computer security groups this semester, with the mutual goal of preparing students to hone their skills beyond the classroom. One group is NICC — NJIT Information and Cybersecurity Club — and the other is the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group of (virtual) Breaking and Entering.

College of Science and Liberal Arts Reaches Diversity Milestone, Enrollment Records
NJIT’s College of Science and Liberal Arts (CSLA) is reporting a milestone on the way to all-new fall enrollment records — the college now has more female students than male students for the first time in its 40-year history. CSLA’s fall enrollment total of nearly 1,200 students represents a new high-water mark for the second consecutive year, with female student population jumping from 46% to 53% of the college’s total student population in that time, according to a report from NJIT’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE).

Six new assistant professors have been appointed to the faculty of Ying Wu College of Computing (YWCC) for the 2022-2023 academic year. They are joined by 11 professors of practice, university lecturers and senior university lecturers who will support the College’s ever-growing enrollment numbers.
