Doga Emil Named to America East All-Rookie Team
The America East announced its postseason women's volleyball awards on Thursday and for the third straight season, NJIT was represented on the All-Rookie Team. Freshman libero Doga Emil was one of seven student-athletes to be named to the All-Rookie Team.

Five Double Figure Scorers Lead NJIT in Overtime Victory at Home Over Central Connecticut State
Kenna Squier and Trinity Williams registered double-doubles as five Highlanders scored in double figures in NJIT's 71-65 overtime victory over visiting Central Connecticut State Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's basketball action inside NJIT's Wellness and Events Center.

Turing Laureate, Compiler Pioneer Jeffrey Ullman Visits NJIT for Data Science Lecture
When a Turing Award winner speaks, NJIT faculty and students listen. Jeffrey Ullman, known as a father of the modern compiler at Bell Labs and Princeton University in the 1960-1970s, filled the largest lecture hall in NJIT's Guttenberg Information Technologies Center for his October 14 lecture on data science, as part of the Ying Wu College of Computing’s distinguished speaker series.

Haylee Merola, 4th year interior design student at NJIT, is the undergraduate winner of the 2022 NEWH (Network of Executive Women in Hospitality) Green Voice Design Competition. The competition “provides students with the opportunity to showcase their design skills while utilizing the very best in sustainable design products and practices.”

NJIT Students of Architecture Won the First Place in 2022 Timber in the City Competition
The winning design, Pine Hill, was developed by the Hillier College of Architecture and Design students ZhongMing Peter Zhang and Peter Koczarski, under the mentorship of their studio instructor Caroline Grieco. The Timber in the City is an annual student competition organized by the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) and the Softwood Lumber Board (SLB).

NJIT Biologist Joins Semifinalists in $10M XPRIZE Rainforest Competition
A U.S.-based team of scientists joined by NJIT biologist Eric Fortune is inching closer to the $10 million XPRIZE Rainforest Competition’s grand prize for improving our understanding of rainforest ecosystems, having recently been named semifinalists. The five-year XPRIZE Rainforest Competition was launched in 2019 to spur innovation of technologies used for better assessing biodiversity in remote rainforests that have yet to be extensively studied before, ultimately aiding in conservation efforts.

HackNJIT, Back From Online Hiatus, Brings Creative Apps and Gadgets
Camping isn't the first hobby you associate with an urban campus, but the outdoors theme was a hit at HackNJIT this month, held fully in-person for the first time since 2019 because of the COVID pandemic. Approximately 200 students from New Jersey Institute of Technology, and from neighbors such as Columbia, Cornell, Princeton, Rutgers and Stevens Institute, registered for the annual tribute to API calls and soldering irons.

Architecture Professor Wins NSF Grant to Develop Design Tools for Residential Housing
Taro Narahara, associate professor at the Hillier College of Architecture and Design, won a National Science Foundation I-Corps award for the development of flexible and intuitive design tools for multifamily residential housing. This project proposes a platform for users to visually study possible housing complex designs and their potential performance in energy use intensity, environmental and some financial criteria based on preliminary sketches drawn by users.

NJIT Trains State Staffers on the ABCs of Energy Management
The head of New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Center for Building Knowledge is teaching the basics of energy management to a group of more than two dozen staffers from state agencies. The staffers serve as energy managers at some 15 state entities and have different levels of expertise. As such, Deane Evans, executive director of the center, uses hands-on, interactive assignments that encourage knowledge-sharing and networking among peers.

DOE Grant Will Recalibrate Current Climate Change Data
Professors Aritra Dasgupta and Chase Wu from the Department of Data Science in NJIT’s Ying Wu College of Computing are developing software to take more advantage of simulation data used to study climate science through a $145,972 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Milad Shojaee - ECE PhD Student of the Month - November 2022
Milad Shojaee is a PhD candidate in the Helen and John C. Hartmann Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NJIT. He is currently working at Networked Controls and Intelligent Diagnostics (NCID) Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Mohsen Azizi. His research interests include decentralized control of renewable energy generation systems.

A day after a hard fought road meet against Villanova, the NJIT men's swimming and diving team showed its growth and toughness by sweeping its home quad meet on Saturday evening at the Wellness and Events Center Natatorium.
