NJIT Defeats Maine in Overtime Thriller on the Road
The NJIT men's basketball team won a wild, back-and-forth affair over Maine on Sunday in America East action, defeating the hosts 91-83 in overtime at The Pit inside Memorial Gymnasium to earn even their conference record at 1-1 on the season.

NJIT and CHOP Develop Tool for Studying Characteristics of a Single Cell
Researchers from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and New Jersey Institute of Technology developed new software that integrates a variety of information from a single cell, allowing researchers to see how one change in a cell can lead to several others and providing important clues for pinpointing the exact causes of genetic-based diseases. The findings were published by Nature Communications.

Fourth Grader's Environmentalism Honored with NJIT Scholarship Following Racial Profiling Incident
Fourth-grade Caldwell student Bobbi Wilson has recently stepped into the national spotlight after her efforts to save her neighborhood’s trees from invasive insects unexpectedly escalated into a traumatic encounter involving the police. Wilson and her family were recognized during an honorary visit to NJIT, where she was awarded a STEM scholarship to continue her spark for science at the university over the summer.

Men's Volleyball Selected Second in 2023 EIVA Preseason Coaches Poll
NJIT was picked to finish second in the 2023 EIVA Preseason Coaches Poll the league office announced on Tuesday. The Highlanders, which finished the 2022 season with a 17-11 overall mark, made an appearance in the 2022 EIVA finals for the third time in program history. The 17 wins was the second most wins since the 2007 season. Penn State was the choice of the EIVA's coaches to be the conference favorite as the 2023 season nears.

Women's Basketball Rings in the New Year with 60-56 Road Win at UMass Lowell
The NJIT women's basketball team rang in the New Year with its second straight America East Conference victory with a 60-56 road win at UMass Lowell Sunday afternoon inside Costello Athletic Center. NJIT, which starts its third season in the America East, begins league action 2-0 for the second straight season, improving to 7-7 overall. Last season, NJIT opened up league play 4-0.

New Jersey Awards $10M to Fund Water Quality Improvement Projects Statewide
A collaborative research group led by NJIT has been awarded a $788k grant from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to implement restoration and protection measures for polluted lakes and ponds within the state. The grant is part of a $10M allocation announced by the Murphy Administration to develop water quality improvement projects across New Jersey, funding for which stems from the federal government’s American Rescue Plan that was appropriated by the state Legislature.

NJIT Adds Vice Provost for Enrollment Management
New Jersey Institute of Technology’s new vice provost for enrollment management, Susan Gross, brings 20 years of experience in admissions and financial aid at universities and law schools. Gross, who starts Jan. 17, arrives after more than eight years at Stevens Institute of Technology, where she was assistant vice president for enrollment management and earlier, director of financial aid. During that period, Stevens saw applications nearly double, enrollment increase by more than a third and the percentage of female and underrepresented students rise steadily.

Campus and Community Support Replenish NJIT Food Pantry During GivingTuesday
NJIT joined the global generosity movement GivingTuesday and campaigned to fight food insecurity by highlighting the university’s food pantry. The first $5,000 raised in support of the NJIT food pantry was doubled thanks to a generous match from Mary Ann and Peter A. Cistaro ’68. At the end of the fundraiser, a total of $14,203 was raised.

Stellar Defense, Balanced Offensive Effort Pushes NJIT Past Niagara, 62-53
Kevin Osawe posted his second double-double of the season as the NJIT men's basketball team held off visiting Niagara 62-53 on Sunday afternoon at the Wellness and Events Center. Osawe came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points and tied his season-high with 13 rebounds as the Highlanders held the Purple Eagles to just 53 points on 39.3% shooting from the field and 6.3% from deep.

NJIT Celebrates an Overseer's Skills as a Leader and Dedication as an Alum
New Jersey Institute of Technology is celebrating Marjorie Perry, an exemplary alumna and member of its Board of Overseers, for her lasting contributions to the university. Perry, president and CEO of MZM Construction Co. in Newark, N.J., supports scholarships and athletics, helps raise money for the university and mentors students, offering real-world advice and internships. All of that illustrates her skills as a leader and dedication as an alum.

Rajesh Davé, a problem-driven inventor whose groundbreaking methods for re-engineering tiny particles have fueled advances in drug formulations, delivery systems and manufacturing processes, is the 2022 winner of the prestigious Pharmaceutical Development, Discovery and Manufacturing Forum (PD2M) Award from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).

Tara Alvarez, a distinguished professor of biomedical engineering at NJIT who studies the links between visual disorders and the brain and develops novel devices to identify and treat them, has been named a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).

Melissa Nieves, graduada de NJIT en 2019, ha ganado el premio al servicio del American Institute of Architects [AIA en siglas en inglés] New Jersey 2022. Nieves, arquitecta asociada de la Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, obtuvo su maestría en arquitectura con especialización en planificación de infraestructura. “Melissa ha tenido el placer de convertirse en líder y mentora dentro y fuera de su lugar de trabajo. Cem Benar - ECE PhD Student of the Month - December 2022
Cem Benar is a Ph.D. candidate in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at NJIT. His doctoral research aims to develop a theoretical framework for neural networks. Neural networks have achieved great success in a wide range of applications. Most neural networks are not inherently interpretable and are created as black-box models. Their architectures are decided experimentally due to the lack of a theoretical framework.
