NJIT Commencement 2021
Students, Faculty, and Staff of NJIT, Yesterday we celebrated the final of our commencement ceremonies, and it truly has been uplifting to offer these opportunities for our graduates to come together in-person, as well as virtually, to mark such an important occasion. Seeing members of the Class of 2021, as well as our honorary degree recipients, on campus, in their regalia, taking photos with their classmates, family, and friends raised the spirits of all involved and gave us a real sense of progress toward a return to normalcy.

Women's Fencer Marina Arrese Tabs Second Straight CoSIDA Academic All-America Recognition
NJIT fifth-year women's fencer Marina Arrese has been named as a First-Team selection on the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Women's At-Large Team, the organization announced on Wednesday. Arrese, a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America and All-District selectee, earned All-America first-team recognition in 2022 and was selected to the second team in 2021.

Four Highlander Programs Highlighted by NCAA for Academic Progress
Four Highlander programs have been recognized by the NCAA for perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the 2020-21 academic year. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation of all student-athletes on scholarship, and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.

Mixed Reality Could be the Future of High-Tech Coaching in Team Sports
Every pitcher believes he has enough gas for one more strike-out, but an invention from NJIT Associate Professor Tao Han might forever change that old stare-down between players and coaches on the mound. A coach wearing a mixed-reality headset could receive real-time statistics and facial interpretation data to evaluate whether the pitcher is right to stand his ground, what he should change or whether it's time to call the bullpen, while also interfacing with a team of analysts and trainers who work remotely and see the same information.

NJIT Athletics is proud to announce nine new members that will make up the 2022 Hall of Fame induction class. The Annual Hall of Fame induction banquet will be held on October 8, 2022 in NJIT's Wellness and Events Center Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan announced.

NJIT Jumps in Global Rankings by QS, Led by International Metrics
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has improved its standing in a global ranking conducted by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a top collegiate evaluation firm based in Europe. NJIT now ranks in the top half of more than 1,400 schools evaluated worldwide, based on almost 2,500 colleges considered. Only 201 schools from the U.S. made the cut.

Solar flares are among the most violent explosions in our solar system, but despite their immense energy — equivalent to a hundred billion atomic bombs detonating at once — physicists still haven’t been able to answer exactly how these sudden eruptions on the Sun are able to launch particles to Earth, nearly 93 million miles away, in under an hour.

NJIT President-Elect Teik Lim to Discuss Innovation at NAI Meeting
New Jersey Institute of Technology President-Elect Teik C. Lim will talk about innovation at the next annual meeting of the National Academy of Inventors. Lim, who'll begin his NJIT presidency on July 1, is participating in a Presidents’ Panel on “innovation in university culture, innovating for future generations and the role of invention in promotion and tenure,” as described by NAI.

Basketball Coach Brian Kennedy Signs Paul McMillan IV, Highest-Rated Recruit in Program History
The NJIT men's basketball team will have a new look in 2022-23 and Head Coach Brian Kennedy has announced he program's first newcomer, Paul McMillian IV. McMillan IV is the highest ranked recruit in program history as the standout is ranked 123rd on the Rivals Top 150 and recently took home Gatorade State Player of the Year honors in his home state of Ohio.

Thirteen Highlanders Named 2021-22 America East Presidential Scholar-Athletes
The America East Conference has announced that 12 student-athletes from NJIT have been named America East Presidential Scholar-Athletes for their outstanding academic achievements throughout their entire career, the league office announced Thursday. The award recognizes graduating student-athletes who compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate student and earned their undergraduate this spring.

NJIT-Led Team Revitalizes Teeth Through Tissue Regeneration
Each year, dentists in the United States perform more than 15 million root canals on infected teeth, removing the inflamed pulp and filling the emptied canal with inert materials such as rubber and cement. What remains is a mineral shell in place of a living tooth.

NJ Society for Information Management Awards YWCC Scholarships
Computer science undergraduates Alfred Simpson and Luis Velasquez each received $5,000 scholarships this spring from the New Jersey chapter of the Society for Information Management. The society is a professional organization for information technology executives. Scholarships are provided by the state chapter's charitable foundation.
