NJII Earns Honors as a 'Leader in Digital Technology' from NJBIZ
New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII) has been honored as a “Leader in Digital Technology” by NJBIZ, a leading business journal in New Jersey, for its role in advances in health information technology (HealthIT) used throughout the state.
NJII, an NJIT corporation, is part of the 2023 cohort of awardees in which the publication is recognizing the most impactful companies and individuals “making a difference in the digital space.”
Since its formation in 2015, NJII’s health care division has earned more than $120 million in grants from both the federal and state governments to manage large scale interoperability projects and help health care delivery organizations participate in and benefit from government sponsored programs. The division's efforts exemplify NJIT's aim to be a leader in digital transformation.
NJII, most notably, manages the New Jersey Health Information Network (NJHIN) on behalf of the New Jersey Department of Health, enabling the electronic exchange of patient health information among trusted data sources across the entire state of New Jersey. NJHIN is utilized to reduce medical errors, improve data quality, make health care more efficient and ultimately improve patient outcomes for all New Jersey residents.
Currently, all hospitals, long-term care, assisted living and federally-qualified health centers in New Jersey are connected to the NJHIN, along with over 20,000 state-wide health care providers.
“As an organization focused on improving health care outcomes and interoperability, earning this recognition from NJBIZ is validation for the over 10 years of progress in the HealthIT space,” said Jennifer D’Angelo, senior vice president and general manager of the health care division at NJII. “We look forward to continuing our work in advancing and improving health care in the state, and beyond.”
Recently, the health care division has demonstrated its prioritization and advancements in security by earning the highest certified assurance status available for information security by HITRUST. HITRUST risk-based, two-year (r2) certified status is a steppingstone in the division’s continued work towards health care interoperability. The certification is instrumental to NJII’s mission of continuing the expansion of its programs to reduce duplicative data entry and manual entry errors in patient history and information, with security and efficiency leading the focus for the future.
