Chemical Engineering Grad at NJIT Scores a Unique Job Opportunity at Merck

Samantha Swider ’21, fresh from the experience of earning a bachelor’s in chemical engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology — which included three cooperative education roles, co-founding NJIT Green and running track, all as a member of Albert Dorman Honors College — is off to Merck, where she’ll work as an operations specialist. The Brick, N.J. native feels exceedingly well prepared, given some shrewd advice her advisor offered all the way back in year one.

3 Full Years at NJIT: Business Grad Studied, Worked in Lab, Managed Investments, Fenced

In just three years, Marina Arrese ’21 earned a bachelor’s in business administration at New Jersey Institute of Technology, even while fencing, serving as co-president of the NJIT Investment Fund, working at the campus Financial Analysis Lab and serving on the Dean’s Executive Student Leadership Council. The Madrid native reflected on the chock-full experience and shared her future plans (hint: she’s staying in Newark) in an interview with NJIT.

NJIT Promotes Lenny Kaplan to Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics

Lenny Kaplan, who has headed New Jersey Institute of Technology's division of physical education and athletics since August 2000, has been promoted to the new title of associate vice president/director of athletics.

Kaplan has been instrumental in guiding the program's growth, first at the NCAA Division II level and, since late 2002, in its successful reclassification to NCAA Division I.

Alvaro Gimeno Earns Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week

Sophomore Alvaro Gimeno has been selected Sports Import/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Player of the Week the organization announced on Tuesday.

In a 2-0 week for the Highlanders, Gimeno averaged 5.17kps, combining for a .490 hitting percentage and totaling 39.5 points.

The 6-foot-9 outside hitter notched seven service aces in the week as NJIT combined for 22 in a pair of victories over Sacred Heart and Harvard.

One For the Record Books: Recapping NJIT's Historic 2018-19 Season

The NJIT Highlanders' record-setting 2018-19 season came to a close on March 28, 2019, in the CIT Quarterfinals.

Head Coach Brian Kennedy's team finished in fifth place of the ASUN Conference with a 22-13 (8-8 ASUN) record, the third-best overall record in the conference. Kennedy's overall record in three seasons as NJIT's head coach improves to 47-49 (.490) and 117-105 (.527) in his seven seasons as a member of the Highlanders' coaching staff.

DELAND, FL—NJIT scored a pair of runs late to win the series finale, 3-1, at Stetson, behind a complete game performance from senior Sean Lubreski to the split Sunday's doubleheader while the Hatters took game one, 1-0, at Melching Field in ASUN Conference action.

Men's Lacrosse Trounces Hampton In 26-9 Rout

Hampton, Va. ---  Powered by an eight-point effort from Aaron Forster, the NJIT men's lacrosse team dominated the Hampton Pirates in a 26-9 victory Saturday afternoon at Armstrong Stadium.
