As a kid growing up in Omaha, Neb., Chloe Jelley ’20 had a major aversion to insects that many can relate with. “I was one of the more careful kids and I was not into bugs at all when I was young … actually, I was really afraid of all bugs,” recalled Jelley. Lenny Kaplan, who has headed New Jersey Institute of Technology's division of physical education and athletics since August 2000, has been promoted to the new title of associate vice president/director of athletics. Sophomore Alvaro Gimeno has been selected Sports Import/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Player of the Week the organization announced on Tuesday. In a 2-0 week for the Highlanders, Gimeno averaged 5.17kps, combining for a .490 hitting percentage and totaling 39.5 points. One For the Record Books: Recapping NJIT's Historic 2018-19 Season

The NJIT Highlanders' record-setting 2018-19 season came to a close on March 28, 2019, in the CIT Quarterfinals. Head Coach Brian Kennedy's team finished in fifth place of the ASUN Conference with a 22-13 (8-8 ASUN) record, the third-best overall record in the conference. Kennedy's overall record in three seasons as NJIT's head coach improves to 47-49 (.490) and 117-105 (.527) in his seven seasons as a member of the Highlanders' coaching staff. Senior Abdul Lewis posted team-highs in points (17) and rebounds (10) as NJIT held off Drexel University, 70-67, on Wednesday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Highlanders have now started 4-0 on the road for the first time in 30 years -- since a 7-0 road mark to open 1988-89.
