Samantha Swider ’21, fresh from the experience of earning a bachelor’s in chemical engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology — which included three cooperative education roles, co-founding NJIT Green and running track, all as a member of Albert Dorman Honors College — is off to Merck, where she’ll work as an operations specialist. The Brick, N.J. native feels exceedingly well prepared, given some shrewd advice her advisor offered all the way back in year one.

In just three years, Marina Arrese ’21 earned a bachelor’s in business administration at New Jersey Institute of Technology, even while fencing, serving as co-president of the NJIT Investment Fund, working at the campus Financial Analysis Lab and serving on the Dean’s Executive Student Leadership Council. The Madrid native reflected on the chock-full experience and shared her future plans (hint: she’s staying in Newark) in an interview with NJIT.

In mid-June, NJIT joined the America East conference, a 10-team league now including schools from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. But as a Division I program for more than a decade already, the university has achieved many athletic triumphs. As a kid growing up in Omaha, Neb., Chloe Jelley ’20 had a major aversion to insects that many can relate with.

“I was one of the more careful kids and I was not into bugs at all when I was young … actually, I was really afraid of all bugs,” recalled Jelley.

Lenny Kaplan, who has headed New Jersey Institute of Technology's division of physical education and athletics since August 2000, has been promoted to the new title of associate vice president/director of athletics.

Kaplan has been instrumental in guiding the program's growth, first at the NCAA Division II level and, since late 2002, in its successful reclassification to NCAA Division I.
