For some, the work of a professional “death investigator” might sound like something straight out of “Law & Order” and “CSI.” However, for Carly Berdan ’18, that job will soon be a very real career. With her graduate coursework completed, Berdan will soon wrap up her master’s thesis at NJIT this summer, leaving with a M.S. in biology and advanced expertise in forensic science. NJIT Clinches Spot in ASUN Tournament with Doubleheader Sweep Over North Florida

NJIT clinched a spot in the 2018 ASUN Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep, 3-1 and 7-1, over visiting North Florida Thursday afternoon in ASUN Conference action at Jim Hynes '63 Stadium on the campus of Kean University. With Thursday's sweep over the Ospreys, NJIT will make the programs first ASUN Conference postseason appearance since joining the league in 2015-16. NJIT evens its overall record to 22-22 and moves into fourth place in the ASUN standings with a record of 9-11. North Florida drops to 25-26 overall, 9-11 in the league. Three Highlander Programs Receive NCAA Academic Performance Public Recognition

Three NJIT Athletic programs were recognized in the 2018 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program for ranking in the top 10 percent for Academic Progress Rate (APR) in their respective sport announced on Wednesday. The NJIT men's cross country, men's volleyball and women's volleyball programs all had scores in the top 10 percent of their respective sport. Each team's multi-year rates were 1,000 each. Men Place Fourth and Women Sixth at the ASUN Track & Field Championships

NJIT men's and women's track & field finished competing at the 2018 ASUN Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday hosted by North Florida. The Highlander men placed fourth with 67 total points behind Kennesaw State, Lipscomb and North Florida, and the women came in sixth with 19 points. The Highlanders posted 17 points in the men's javelin throw, with McNamara taking first place with a new personal mark of 54.69m. Uttendorfer Becomes All-Time Hit Leader

Senior Jesse Uttendorfer became NJIT's all-time hit leader, Tommy Derer registered his fourth win of the season and Johnny Malatesta tabbed his fifth save of the season in NJIT's 3-2 win over Kennesaw State Sunday afternoon in ASUN Conference action at Stillwell Stadium. With the win, the Highlanders earn its first ASUN Conference series over the Owls, improving to 7-11 in the ASUN, 20-22 overall while Kennesaw State drops to 11-7 in the ASUN and 25-24 overall. NJIT Athletics recognized the contributions and accomplishments of over 340 student-athletes on its 19 varsity teams for the 2017-18 season at the athletic awards banquet Wednesday, May 2, on campus inside the Wellness and Events Center. NJIT's Karen David and Kelly Guarino have been selected to the Fall and Winter ASUN Conference Winners for Life Teams the league office announced. Blake Brancato Breaks 5K Record at 2018 Larry Ellis Invitational

Blake Brancato broke the 5K record at the 2018 Larry Ellis Invitational held at Princeton Friday. The senior was the only Highlander participant at the invite. Brancato broke the 5K record coming in first with a time of 14:45.48, three seconds faster than the second place finisher from Villanova.

NJIT women's tennis players Amanda Helminsky and Mayar Eltony were named to the 2018 ASUN Second-Team All-Conference the league office announced on the eve of the ASUN Women's Tennis Tournament. Eltony, a 2017 ASUN All-Freshmen Team and first-team honoree, tabs second-team honors at No. 2 singles while Helminsky posts her first postseason award at No. 5 singles. Men's Lacrosse Earns First Home Program Win with 15-8 Victory Over Hampton

NJIT men's lacrosse earned their first ever home program with a 15-8 victory over Hampton on Saturday afternoon. The Highlanders other two program wins came at Dartmouth in 2016 and at Hampton in April of last year. Men's lacrosse celebrated Senior Day prior to the first face-off, honoring its four seniors Mark Bannon, Nick Marzullo, Ishmael Menns and Matthew Valdez. NJIT led the game in shots 45-30, were 19-for-27 from the face-off circle and led in ground balls 38-26 which is a season-high and one short of the program high 39 ground balls. To read...
