NJIT Hangs On at Drexel for Another Impressive Road Win

Senior Abdul Lewis posted team-highs in points (17) and rebounds (10) as NJIT held off Drexel University, 70-67, on Wednesday at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Highlanders have now started 4-0 on the road for the first time in 30 years -- since a 7-0 road mark to open 1988-89.

In a game NJIT controlled for a majority of the time (33:19), the outcome was not determined until the final buzzer.

NJIT Shoots Down Blackbirds to Improve to 6-1

Sophomore Zach Cooks scored a team-high 22 points and NJIT remained perfect on the road with a 77-70 victory over LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. With a 6-1 record, the Highlanders are off to their best start since 1994-95.
 
Their 3-0 record away from Newark also represents their best road start since 2000-01. In fact, it also gives the Highlanders their first three-game, road winning streak since Jan. 15 to Feb. 1, 2006 (Stetson, Kennesaw, Lipscomb).
 

Guarino Scores Career-Best 26 Points in NJIT's 79-71 Win Over Western Carolina

Graduate student Kelly Guarino scored a career-best 26 points and head coach Mike Lane registered his first win as a Division I head coach in NJIT's 79-71 victory over Western Carolina in the NJIT Thanksgiving Classic Saturday afternoon at the Wellness and Events Center.

NJIT (1-5) snaps a five-game skid in the win while Western Carolina drops to 1-6 on the young season.

NJIT Mathematics Students Finish Finalists at 2018 NBA Hackathon

In August, more than 700 teams comprised of statisticians, programmers, engineers and students from across North America applied to enter this year’s “2018 NBA Hackathon” — a data-driven competition to “build tools that solve important and challenging problems in the NBA.”

It was then that a team of three mathematics students from NJIT applied for and earned distinguished selection into the contest’s final 20-team field, scheduled to compete at the NBA headquarters in Secaucus, NJ this past fall.

Guards Lead Highlanders to 4-0 Start

Junior guard Shyquan Gibbs posted game-highs in points (15) and assists (4) to lead NJIT past Kean University, 73-40, on Wednesday at the Wellness and Events Center. With the win, the Highlanders have started a season 4-0 for the first time since they competed at the Division-III level in 1996-97.

NJIT Basketball Alumnus Tim Coleman Shining in Luxembourg

Former NJIT basketball star Tim Coleman '17 is representing the Highlanders program with flying colors. This past week, he was named Interperformances Player of the Week of the Total League for his performance with Etzella in Luxembourg.

The Union, N.J., native notched 32 points and 10 rebounds in an 88-68 win over Sparta (3-4). 

NJIT Men's Basketball Off to Historic Start

The NJIT men's basketball team became the nation's first NCAA program to reach three victories against Division-I opponents this season following Sunday's 63-60 win over Brown University. Of the five other teams that remain undefeated with at least three wins, only Missouri State University has joined NJIT in doing so exclusively against Division-I competition. There are 353 programs competing at the NCAA Division-I level.

NJIT Tennis Hosts Grand Slam Series Event for Special Olympic Athletes

The NJIT men's and women's tennis teams hosted a Tennis Grand Slam Series Event for Special Olympic Athletes on Saturday, November 10, coordinated by the NJIT head coaches Ira MillerZaki Abdelrahman and Casey Henderson, the Coach Education and Sports Training Director at the Lawrenceville, New Jersey Special Olympics headquarters.

Senior Reilly Walsh scored a career-high and game-high 21 points as NJIT outlasted Colgate University, 81-78, in overtime in the season-opener on Tuesday at the Wellness and Events Center (WEC).

But it was another senior that sealed the win.

The open-call advertisement encouraged applications for a chance of entering a highly selective, once-in-a-lifetime competition — one that would test Scivetti against some of New Jersey’s most impressive young women onstage, in front of a live audience of thousands.
