Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight; Fiona Wright Nets Pair of Goals

Freshman Fiona Wright scored a pair of goals and sophomore Katrina Nguyen-DeMary collected two assists in NJIT's 4-1 victory over Fairfield Sunday afternoon on the campus of Kean University East Campus Facility. Women's Volleyball Earns Fifth Straight AVCA Academic Award

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) recognized the NJIT women's volleyball team for the AVCA's annual team academic award covering the 2017-18 academic year, the AVCA announced. The Highlanders earned their fifth straight team academic award, maintaining a minimum grade point average of a 3.30 for the academic year. The NJIT women were one of 164 NCAA Division I programs recognized to receive the accolade for the 2017-18 season.

Julia Garcia '18, who completed her four-year college women's fencing career in May, has been named a nominee for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Garcia graduated from NJIT with a bachelor's degree in business administration and currently works as an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs. Rising women's basketball senior Kelly Guarino was one of 200 student-athletes to be selected and participate in the NCAA Career in Sports Forum at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis from May 31-June 3. Seniors Brian Sondergard and Jesse Uttendorfer and junior Sean Lubreski were named to the 13-person ASUN All-Academic team the conference announced on the eve of the 2018 ASUN Baseball Tournament. Thirteen athletes appear on the 2018 ASUN Baseball All-Academic squad with the highest vote-getters receiving Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honors.
