Summertime Look Back: The NJIT Student Athletes Who Excelled
In mid-June, NJIT joined the America East conference, a 10-team league now including schools from New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. But as a Division I program for more than a decade already, the university has achieved many athletic triumphs. Three Highlanders Named to 2017 ASUN Outdoor Track and Field Academic Team
Outdoor track and field athletes Calvin Gould, Jay Bober and Shannon Turner have been selected to the 2017 ASUN Conference Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic team, the conference office announced Friday. Student-athletes must have a 3.30 GPA or higher and have participated in 50% of the team's competitions this season. They must also have at least one year of residence at the institution.
NJIT's Alana Dudley Selected ASUN Woman of the Year Nominee
NJIT's women's basketball senior Alana Dudley has been selected one of two ASUN Conference nominees for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award, the conference announced at the ASUN end-of-the-year spring meetings in Savannah, Ga.
NJIT's Swimming & Diving Team Highlights CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams
NJIT men's swimming and diving has been selected a College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team for the 2017 spring season. For the first time in the 95-year history of the CSCAA, more than 700 teams have received Scholar All-America recognition.
Three Highlander Programs Receive NCAA Academic Performance Public Recognition
Three NJIT Athletics programs were recognized in the 2018 NCAA Division I Academic Performance Program for ranking in the top 10% for Academic Progress Rate (APR) in their respective sport, announced on Wednesday. The NJIT men's cross country, men's volleyball and women's volleyball programs all had scores in the top 10% of their respective sport. Each team's multiyear rates were 1,000 each.
Women's Fencing Standout Up for NCAA Woman of the Year Award
Julia Garcia '18, who completed her four-year college women's fencing career in May, has been named a nominee for the 2018 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Garcia graduated from NJIT with a bachelor's degree in business administration and currently works as an investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs. She is one of 581 nominees nationally (251 – Division I, 131 – Division II and 199 – Division III), marking the most in the history of the Woman of the Year program.
NJIT's Sean Lubreski Signs Professional Contract With Tucson Saguaros
Sean Lubreski, who starred for the NJIT baseball program for four seasons, ending in 2019, has signed a professional contract with the Tucson Saguaros. Lubreski graduated in May 2018 with a bachelor's in communication and media, magna cum laude, and received his master's degree in management May 21, 2019. He concludes his four-year Highlander career, starting in 55 career games (ranked third in NJIT D1 era), including five complete games, and registering 18 wins (tied for third in the NJIT D1 era).
