Senior Success: Sravya Vegunta Is Going to Medical School
“It’s a little bittersweet to have to leave without being able to say proper goodbyes to everyone,” lamented Sravya Vegunta, a senior Albert Dorman Honors College (ADHC) scholar, about graduating from NJIT during the coronavirus pandemic. “But I’m definitely glad to be moving on to that next stage, because it’s something that I’ve been looking forward to for so long,” she added, speaking from her Monroe Township home where she is staying inside with her parents and younger brother.

Senior Success: Katharine Ilyutovich Will Begin Her Career as a Business Analyst
Ask Katharine Ilyutovich what she will miss most about NJIT after graduating this May and she will promptly tell you “the people.” “It’s just nice that I can walk in and people will know who I am and just talk to me about whatever,” said the business major, referring to the kinship she has found over the past four years at Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM). “It’s just very comforting.”

Meeting the Demand: Honors Scholars Produce Hundreds of Personal Protective Equipment
It all started with an email sent by NJIT/Albert Dorman Honors College (ADHC) alumnus, Biren Bhatt, M.D., to Louis Hamilton, ADHC dean, as the coronavirus pandemic was spreading with lightning speed throughout the New York-New Jersey area. Dr. Bhatt, an attending emergency physician at Hackensack Medical Center (HMC), asked the dean to put out a call to Dorman Scholars to design and create a prototype for a face shield, vital personal protective equipment (PPE) for health care workers.

Judy A. Donnelly M ARCH '97 To Receive NJIT Alumni Achievement Award
Since 2006, Judith Anne Donnelly, AIA has been the principal owner of Donnelly Architecture, LLC. An architectural firm that works on both residential and commercial projects, the focus of DA, LLC is “project excellence” with a personal touch. She is licensed to practice architecture in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

Faculty Urged to Embrace Open-Source Textbooks, Save Students Money
Librarians and an increasing number of faculty are pushing NJIT ahead of the curve in a statewide effort to replace expensive textbooks with free online alternatives for lower-level courses. Free online course materials, which insiders refer to as open educational resources, can save money for students and be just as good or better than regular course material from traditional publishing companies.

Senior Success: Charles Auriemma Is a Senior Audit Analyst at American Express
For the latter half of 2019, Charles Auriemma was working double-time — spending 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as an audit analyst for Fidelity Investments in Jersey City, and evenings completing his degree in financial technology at NJIT's Martin Tuchman School of Management (MTSM), through a full and final semester of both online and on-campus classes. He didn’t get many zzzs. “Yes, [I was] very tired,” he said with a laugh. But, “I got lots of sleep in January.”

Daniel Meza, Hillier's First Fulbright Scholar, Works in Slime Mold
Students applying for Fulbright scholarships often see their work described as advanced, insightful, sophisticated or any number of similar platitudes -- but for senior industrial design major Daniel Meza the word was also slimy. Meza, who plans to graduate in December from Hillier College of Architecture and Design and who's also an Albert Dorman Honors College student, found his medium in mold and slime. He is just the fourth NJIT student to become a Fulbright Scholar and the first from HCAD.
